Attack/middie: 40-42" from bottom of stick to top of head.
Defender: 52-72" from bottom of stick to top of head.
Goalkeeper: 40-72" from bottom of stick to top of head.
Head sizing is another issue, so don't think it's legal just because it's the proper length.

For you players in 4th grade or under, a stick may legally be as short as 37", in games using the USL Youth Council Rules Addendum. Thats the USL Bantam and Lightning divisions...
NCAA rulebook 2004. Page 17. Paragraph beginning "The required guard stop..." has the word "unexposed" in the second line and the word "exposed" in the last line of the paragraph. Why? Check diagram page 90.
NFHS rulebook has consistency here: both words are "exposed" in the paragraph on pages 11-12.

I've always been a little confused by exactly what they're looking for here, perhaps because of the conflicting wording. Just to be clear, if someone has a thicker guard stop, that extra thickness could put them under the minimum of 10 inches and cause the stick to be illegal? And I assume this would be a 3:00 penalty, since the 1:00 penalty is only for a deep pocket, even though in principle they could pull out the old stop and slap a thinner stop in there to make the stick legal.
