[Help][Dye] Cleaning?

I am going to be dying my bionic black, It needs to also be strung REALLY badly. Its very dirty and has scrapes from concreate/indoor floors etc. Do I need to clean it or can I just dye it? If I have to clean it how do I do it? Simple water and washcloth?

I dunno about other people but when I dyed my bionic there were some pretty deep scratches so I took a pockect knife and shaved them off to make them smooth and easy to dye, but I don't reccomend doing everywhere.
other than that all I did was used some dawn soap and a rag and water and scrubbed all the nasty stuff off.

Mine is really bad, I dont know if shaving it would really help except make the top of the head thinner because they are pretty bad, If need be I can provide a picture(s)

I've done bleach before. After soap and water.

I would just use soap and water. Some good scrubing with a sponge should do the trick, it could take a while depending on how dirty it is.

Mr Clean Magic Eraser and a cycle through the dishwasher work wonders.
