I have a question during last season my friend was called for something I forget it was in the box behind the restraining line in field lacrosse he picked up a ground ball and about five or four yards ahead there was an attackmen on the other team and my friend went straight in to hom with a bull dodge the kids feet werent planted or anything he was going to poke check my friend and leveled him both hands were on the stick and he used his shoulder what would he have gotten called for?

In field lax (don't know about box) this was probably called an illegal body check. Why? Because you cannot body check another player
1) after he has made a pass or shot and the contact is avoidable;
2) the ball is not in his possession or a loose ball (on the ground or a pass in the air) is not within five yards of your opponent;
3) body checking from the rear, above the shoulders or below the waist;
4) body checking when any body part other than his feet are on the ground (for instance, he has lost his balance and has his hand on the ground; he is susceptible to injury so you cannot check him).
So, in this case, your friend had possession of the ball, so it was not a loose ball. The defender he ran over was not w/in five yards of a loose ball, so it was illegal.
In fact, the whole legality of the bull dodge has come into question in a few posts. I feel if an attacker purposely tries to knock the defender over, it's illegal because it runs afoul of the rules; if the contact is incidental, such as with a roll dodge, then it is allowable.
The defender is legally free to body check a player with possession.

I believe that Jim Brown at Syracuse would hold the crosse against his chest with the ball trapped. He could then run over people without fear of losing the ball. Withholding the ball from play.

It seems like it's a judgment call....if the bull dodger was intentionally trying to run over the other player, or if the other player just kind of got in the way. Ususally it's a non-issue, since the dodger is unsuccessful, so it's rarely called, or attempted, really. E-lax had one of a BYU player running over a Essex or Herkimer (sp?) defender..it was really cool.

See the thread "Stiff Arm," and the thread referenced in that thread, for a full discussion of the issues involved. However, the bottom line is we didn't see the play, and we don't even know if the call is right, so we can't tell you what was called. It could have been an illegal body check, a ward, unneccessary roughness, or something else.
