Looking through all the posts and stickis i figured out how to string hard mesh and how to lay down a variatioon of shooters. I still dont understand what the difference or benefit is between the shooter variations. Like what differs between a v and u, and what formations are more appropriate for each position.

Basically it boils down to personal preference, regardless of position. Mainly through your own trial and error, you find what works for you. The traditional straight across shooting strings are to keep the ball from releasing off of the scoop of the stick and to control the point at which the balls comes out of the pocket. Experiment with higher and lower release points (higher and lower shooting strings) till you find what works for you and fits in well with your natural shooting and passing motions. U and V shooters, while used to control the release point of the ball, also provide a channel to provide more "hold" and also guide the ball out of the pocket.
The old adage "It's the wizard, not the wand" basically states that any good lacrosse player can adjust his game to whatever stick he is playing with. But if you know a thing or two about stringing you can almost always adjust your stick to your game.
