At my away game today, my whole crease was basically a puddle. This made it very hard to step to the ball and created the weirdest bounces ever. I probably only made about 3 saves. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how do you still keep your steps quick?

i've had that happened to me once but it was at a try out... needless to say that wasn't my best performance =/

I had that happen to me. It was a rainy game. One crease had good grass on it while the other was a pile of mud. I looked drunk if I tried playing by it. I had to use a high arc to play. It sucked too because I had to play two games that day and both were against the top teams.

I would stay on my toes and just do short, choppy steps.

Ours is becoming a nice mud hole. I do what NALC does and play a higher arc. So far so good.

I always play a high arc and I was at a field in lynchburg VA and both creases were sunkedn mudholes. bascially I found that squatting down and slight duckfooting in my stance helped me plant better. Your giving up higher shots, but most guys will shoot low because of the mud anyways.

play a high arc, most bouncers should just die in the mud.

It happend to me once. I aswell play high arc. If the person bounced it it would litterly not effect anything because i play middle school level and kids don't know how to through bounce shots haha. Anyway, you will have that commonly at lower levels haha.

We used to bring a push broom and cat litter and try to firm it all up pre-game. Football cleats - hard nylon w/steel centers - instead of soccer shoes.
The nice thing was, some shots just stop in the mud, and none of them kick up high - they skid.
The thing I hated most was when a bounce shot would just paint my face and eyes with mud
But, whatever - the other goalie will be in it half the game too.

this is a smart idea. another suggestion would be to just get your feet quicker and to get to the ball no matter what and not be afraid of putting your body behind the ball
