Are any of you coaches going? What has been your experiences there? What's best to bring? What clinics are you looking to attend?
Me, i'm hopefully going. I've never gone before, but I'm hoping to get as much offensive and defensive clinics in as I can. I'd plan on hitting as many clinics as I can. I might bring a video camera to tape the presentations and maybe a tape recorder.
Kevin,
unless you've heard a coach speak before, the convention is pretty much a crapshoot. The "big time" D1 coach can often be a dud, and yet the little known D111 or high school coach's presentation a "hit". I think any time you can get to one of the "on field" presentations at the Convention Center this year the better. Outside of that advice, here's some more.
Berkman and Danowski will both be very good on Friday night. I've heard both before and would send my son to both schools to play for those guys. I have the Saturday schedule in front of me, and here are a couple of thoughts.
Joe Ehrman's presentation at 9:30 could be a "life changer".
Gene Peluso from RIT is a great presenter.
Ted Garber from Avon Old Farms is hysterically funny, and has terrific drills you'll use all season at practice.
If possible, find a way in your schedule to watch Kevin Sheehan's on field demo for youth lacrosse - his drills work like magic, and not just on 9 year olds.
Hope that helps, Newt.

I was aware that the coach from Hofstra was presenting friday night, but didn't know about Berkman.
These choices are too tough..thanks for the advice though.
Does anyone have any thoughts on that CD-ROM of the convention their offereing? I tried to call after I got off work, but I think their work hours are my work hours as well...

Kevin: if you do bring a video camera or get your hands on the cd-rom, please let us know if you'll be able to provide copies to those of us who couldn't go. A few of my fellow coaches here in AZ go, but they're usually so busy that I'd rather not rely on them

Definitely.
I don't know what the CD ROM is all about...it doesn't have a very good description and there isn't a website or anything. I'm interested in how much it costs (I don't really understand the pricing tables) and what it is (didn't much get that part either...perhaps the powerpoint slides and audio presentations, since they mentioned mp3 formats?). It'll be a great experience. I don't plan on getting hammered (I'm being sent on a scholarship (Mad Props to STX) so it's not gonna be like a January spring break) and after living for awhile in a place fairly devoid of lacrosse, it'll really be cool to see something this huge and be able to meet coaches from all over the country, and probably world.

my highschool coach goes every year. He said last year (or maybe 2 years ago...I forget) he got really exciting because Bill Tierney was going to speak. He got really let down. He said Tierney was a complete dud...he spent the entire time talking about this...
"Now guys, when you all talk about offensive formations...such as a 1-4-1, 2-3-1, etc., how many of you start counting the players from the midfield line to X?"
::half of the room raises their hand::
"And how many of you count the players from X to the midfield line?"
::the other half of the room raises their hand::
"See guys, that's a problem."

I ordered the CD Rom, it was like half price if you ordered it at the convention! :bartmoon: I hung out at the demonstrations all day so I missed all the sit down powerpoint BS that is on the CD Rom! :nut:
I have not heard anything about the CD Rom. I think they said it would take like a month or something! :imparied:

Can anybody tell me were to get this cd? I'm from germany and we have a new coach on our team, is it intereting for him? Didn't do a lot of coaching before.
The CD Rom is from a company called Digitell. Their website is www.digitellinc.com. Some of the presentations are great and include extra visuals on the cd, others are just okay, and some very difficult to follow.
