The Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic has established itself as the premier event in the country for elite high school lacrosse players. Now in its third year, the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic will once again showcase the nation's top high school senior boys in a nationally televised game and at a big-time collegiate facility.

In 2008, the event is increasing its commitment to finding the best high school lacrosse players in the country by expanding the underclassman part of the festivities. This year, four boys and four girls teams from the nation's top lacrosse hotbeds-- Baltimore, New Jersey, Washington DC, and Philadelphia -- will be featured in the expanded Underclassman All-Star Tournament.

We will be holding tryouts in each region to flush out the best talent. Players will be judged by a panel of knowledgeable sources including coaching experts from that region. Each team will consist of a minimum of 22 players and will be chosen based on position and their performance at that day's tryout. Dates, locations, more information and the online registration form is available at www.underarmourlacrosse.com (http://www.underarmourlacrosse.com/)

In addition to being a great opportunity to shine in front of scores of college coaches on July 12th, the underclassman players will also be watched and observed during tryouts in their respective markets (Last year over 30 college coaches showed up to the Baltimore tryout).

Once selected, each team will travel down to Towson University on July 12th to play a four-team tournament alongside the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic. The finals will be held in the stadium before the All-America game.

Thanks for your help, and we hope you join us at this year's Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic.

The Under Armour All American Lacrosse Classic is the highest honor for a high school player to play in. Under Armour picks 44 All Americans for their game, and they are truly the best players in the country.

The Underclassman games have been expanded this year to add a team in New Jersey and Philly to compete with Baltimore and DC teams. I also head that they might add some more teams next year ( Upstate New York, Long Island ,don't know who else).

I can not wait to tryout, my brother was selected for the senior game last year and he told me it was the best experience in his athletic career.

I think it is comical that Adidas is trying to do the same thing with the underclassman tourney. The talent is not going to be close. How can they have 500 All Americans-ridiculous. Mine as well call anyone that plays lacrosse an Adidas All American.

I went to www.underarmourlacrosse.com to register.

It is a shame they did not allow the NY & LI area boys tryout for the underclassmen team, if you want to get the best players you need to open up the NY & LI area.

when I brought the following matter to your attention, your response was "I'm sorry...the team has already been chosen...we only printed 24 shirts for each team...." Helloooo...you are with Under Armour!

So, I say BEWARE of the wrath of Cabell Maddux if your child participates on a Madlax team and does not return the following season.

I have it on good authority that my son received high scores from the coaches assembled for both days of the UnderArmour tryouts, but he wasn’t chosen for the team because Maddux has the final say as to who plays on the Washington Under Armour team and who doesn't. I believe Maddux intentionally left my son off the team, because I chose not to enroll him in Madlax again this summer.

Instead, my son told Maddux he had commitments to compete on a Select team in a couple of tournaments, to participate in the FreeState and Under Armour tryouts, the Top 205 Tournament, the Blue Chip 225 Camp at Fairfield University, to go on a family vacation, etc. Even though Maddux was informed of my son’s other commitments, he chose his ego/pocketbook over the interests of a talented, respected, and deserving 16 year old lacrosse player.

My son actually wanted to return to Madlax this summer, but because Maddux pulled something similar last fall, I said no. My son wasn’t chosen to participate in the Madlax All-Star game at the conclusion of F.E.L.L. (he was the only starter from his high school varsity team who was also a starter on his Madlax team who was not chosen), because I enrolled him in “only two [additional] tournaments” with his Madlax teammates.

Shame on you, Maddux!

I feel bad for what you went through, but it really doesn't matter in the whole scheme, his character can really show when he is faced with unfairness and nepotism, as well as yours. Don't let one team situation bring you guys down to the level that you speak of.
We have faced similar circumstances and ruly the best revenge(as it were) is success

As a parent it is extremely difficult and frustrating not to say something when your child has been slighted, taken advantage of, etc. But, you're absolutely right. Thanks.
I should follow my son's example - he handles these situations without saying a disparaging word about anyone. He sees these instances as a challenge and an opportunity to further improve his game.
Thanks again.

Sounds like he is involved in enough lacrosse that he'll make it to the next level despite situations like the one you describe, if he is as good as you think he is that is. You should follow your son's example, as hard as it may be. You don't want your kid to get a bad rap because of his parent(s) making waves. Lacrosse is still a pretty small community and Maddux is pretty well known in the community. Don't think this is the last time that he'll get the short end because of some sort of politics. Good luck.

Let me take a second and clear the air in regards to the DC tryout. First, I am sorry that your son was not selected as a member of the DC All Star team. Cabell Maddux is the coach of the DC team but he did have 18 evaluators at the tryouts evaluating each kid so they could pick the BEST 24 players in their eyes to compete in the tournament on July 12. The DC boy's tryouts did have the MOST evaluators of any tryout. The evaluators got together and gave input on the players who had a chance of making the team and that is when they have to make a decision on who stays and who doesn't.

Please keep in mind, that your son's high school varsity coach is the ASSISTANT on this DC team, and had the opportunity to give his input. There are 4 players on the roster from Good Counsel High School.

You have to understand we only have so many spots for each position and if you don't stand out at the tryouts, you are not helping your cause. The tryouts are loaded with college coaches watching to see the best underclassman play in each region so even if you don't make the team-you are still getting exposure.

We only have 24 players on the team due to playing time during games so everyone can play and that is the number we have set. We feel this is an excellent opportunity for the kids and we keep all the politics out of the selection process.

Good luck to your son in the future.

I'll translate for everyone:

Boo hoo, my son didn't get chosen for a team so I'm going to start pointing fingers and blaming everyone.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I know if I was in charge of that team I would have cut him regardless of how good he is. If this is any indication of how you react to everything, I wouldn't want to deal with you either.

I know how you feel, but I really think that Maddux wants to WIN.

While it may seem as if money is always a factor with Madlax, the main event is that if his teams don't win, Madlax won't have the respect he needs to maintain a reputation for great lacrosse players.

The UA tryouts..........it's not always about the standout player. Sometimes it's about the TEAM requirements. If your son was needed on that team, his name would have been on the list.

I hope he fares better at the camps.

Laxwife&mom: life is not fair. But it sounds like you have a thousand things going on for him, lax-wise. You need to look forward, not back, which is easy to say, I know. Just make them wish they had picked him. Plus, you know you are in a very competitive marketplace, right?

Laxwifeandmom, have you ever heard the term of "over exposing your child", Judging from your post, you son has more than enough to be recruited--if he is truly as good as you say he is. Back off and let your kid have fun with a game he enjoys.

As for Maddux, his track record for college placement assistance is unmatched in the DC area. Last years seniors, except for one, were all recruited by and are attending excellent institutions. I have no regrets writing my check. He works hard for his players, runs a successful business and is entitled to make a profit.
