im wondering if i should cut my brine matrix pads to make them sorta like liner pads. is this a bad idea or not cause i need some less bulky shoulder pads. will the reffs call it because i play a middle school league and i have a jersey usually over my pads so they will not be able to see em.
my secong question is what are the least expensive and bulky and lightest sp's out there. protection is not a matter for me and i do not take a beating much cause i am a quick lsm or dman.

umm... sure if you want less bulky pads then go for it. I have never seen a ref call anything about SP's. You have a jersey on.

im just unsure. can someone clear this up because isnt modifying your eqipment illegal? will i get called?

maybe put this in the officiating forum to get someone like LaxRef to answer your question, or pm him. As for the shoulder pads, Rhinoskin is pretty light and nonbulky and as long as protection isn't an issue with you they should fit your need.

our entire team cut their shoulder caps and no one has been called so i guess it's ok.

people cut shoulder pads all the time and it never gets called even when wearing pinnies

it is a common thing to cut the caps off of shoulder pads, but it also is illegal...if you look at Laxrefs thread in the officiating section, a rule states that you can only modify shoulder pads in ways the manufactuer lets you, like you can take the biceps pads off b.c they are velcroed..but technically you cant modify your SP's by cutting them, but odds are you'll never get flagged for that

im pretty sure it isn't illegal to mod your shoulder pads. some people don't even wear shoulder pads, they just wear the under armour with the little pads on the shoulders. i don't think its a big deal. Just don't worry about it and do it! many many kids have done it in my league and they don't regret anything
