is there a difference between the clear and the black that make them and $10 difference other than the fact that it is a different color?

It's a different material. The clear is lexan, I assume the black is the same material as their helmet.

Do you have to drill holes in your helmet with the clear one like you do with the black one?

If you want the strongest connection between your helmet and throat guard, you are going to want to drill the chin piece on your helmet and bolt the guard on. String allows too much free movement for me to see it as being the same level of safety

it is really easy. just grab a friend to help you with it.
there is a direction sheet with the throat guard that tells you where to drill the hole. measure it out on your helmet and make a dot with a marker (check to make sure it is right with your throat guard). then drill a hole. start small and get bigger until it is the right size.
its really not hard. it will only be 3 small holes, front and 2 on the sides

if i take off the throat guard for whatever reason, will it be okay to have hoals in my helemet? will the warranty be voided?

it's not illegal to play with or anything like that but i think it might void the warranty if cascade doesn't mount it

that I don't know. try calling them. maybe you can send it in and they can do it for you.

Nah, the warranty should still be good. Why would they void the warranty of about 10% of the helmets they sell simply because of three small holes?

Can you boil the throat guard to make it fit?
