practice. theres no secret, just practice.

you can also:
-watch other goalies (extremely helpful)
-get as much one-on-one coaching as possible.
-make sure to move to the ball with your "nose, toes, and hands."

Ok the first thing that i suggest you do is practice practice and practice, if you are serious about it. The second thing that i suggest you do is that you watch the area where the ball is going and to also watch the ball out of the stick. Another thing you should do is step to the ball and not just poke your stick at the ball. The fifth thing is that when a bounc shot comes make sure you step towards it and hunker down so as you get your whole body behind the ball. make sure you are also in the right position in the goal and you know where you are between the pipes. This should be helpful and when you become more confident you can learn some more tricks in goal. Good luck in your season and have fun in between the pipes.

I think nothing develops good goalie habits, quickness and eye hand coordination faster or better than wall ball. Up-close wall ball. For as much as you can, every day.

Throw it hard down at the wall so it comes back to you on a hard bounce.

Step into every return. Try to catch each one, but if you can't, make sure you at least get your leg, arm or body on it.

You can vary your distance from the wall and how hard you throw, but see how close and how hard you can do it.

Wear a cup. Wear your gloves.

On the field, constantly talk to the D. Tell them where the ball is. Call out picks when you see them. Tell them when you are screened. Call for backup if one looks like he's getting beat. The more you talk, the better the D plays, and the better they play... well, better is better.

Welcome to the club! Good luck and have a blast.

wyvern pretty much hit it on the head. if you cant stop it with your stick, a part of your body better be backing it up to ensure it doesnt go in.
remember practice doesnt make perfect, practice makes permanant.
make sure that everytime you are in cage, you play as if you are playing in a game. dont develop bad habits, its harder to get rid of bad habits than it is to pick up good ones.

1. Practice, Practice, And Practice
2. Watch the ball.
3. Watch Pro-Goalies
4. Don't be afraid of the ball

Hope this helps!

Low Shots: Collapse on the ball. Smother it with your body. You have a smaller head so it's much less likely you'll actually catch it especially since you're probably not used to stopping shots even with a goalie stick so body is your best bet.

This doesn't mean your goalie is necessarily bad. You shouldn't say that about him. Goalies take a lot of garbage from people and half the time are the first person blamed for a loss even when they may have had no help from defense or offense might have not been shooting at all that day.
