Im a freshman and im going to play lacrosse next year. I originally was thinking of playing defense, but then my friend told me that that position is not very forgining to beginners, especially at the high school level. So which should I play, midfield or attack?

I can run really well and have endurance. My stick handling at the time is not the greatest but i plan to practice a lot over the summer.

Usually attackmen are fast and agile. Generally they have the best stickwork on the team. As for middies, they usually have more endurance cuz they gotta play both sides of the ball (offense and defense). If you play middie make sure you have good defensive skills or else youre pretty much worthless. A team cant afford to have a middie that doesnt get back fast enough or one that always gets beat on D.

I play midfield and I am going to have to say that you sound like the guy for the job.
Midfielders play quite alot and have short shifts like hockey, but also like hockey, you are never off for long. You need lots of endurance and need to be able to catch your man on a fast break and still be able to go on after without making a shift off.
Attack generally have the best stick work on the team, and take long shifts on and off. On my team the stay on for 1 full quarter, sit off 1 full quarter, go on 1 full quarter, sit for the last quarter, and vice versa.

Seriously, lacrosse is not an easy game to perfect but it is an easy game to learn. I started plaing about 3 months ago. I practice 5/7 days a week for at least 2 hours. I am still not that great, but I am better than some guys that have been playing for longer than me. The best thing you can do is listen to your coach. he/she will tell you the best advise you can get. they will know your strengths and weaknesses after a bit. After your first couple of try outs, ask your coach what they would like you to improve on and how you can do that.

best of luck to ya! cya in the MLL :bye:

Id say either defense or midi. We have a kid who is in his first year playing lacrosse as a sophomore and is starting defense. He isn't the greatest with stick skills but he makes up for it with his positioning and ability to lift the opponent and also strength. Midfiled may be good because it does not require the most stick skills. A lot depends on the type of team you play for. My team is very much offensive midi's and defensive. As in you play offense and in the transition you get off for the defensive. It is not as much of an endurance position as other teams may be. Attack requires probably the most stick skills and ability to see the field. Attack also requires endurance because at least on my team the attackmen play basically the entire game.

I think D is the easiest position for people to pick up. If your stick skills arent incredible, you can make up for it with athleticism and good form. There is a kid on my team who was a starting D2 pitcher, threw his arm out, and wanted to pick up lacrosse, he was a starter by the end of the year on defense... I would say middie and attack are harder to pick up because the stick skills aspect of lacrosse is harder to pick up for some, where as good defensive positioning many people already know if they were basketball or football players...

Go attack, I've heard adjusting to a pole is hard, so attack is best
