I just got threw a really horrible injury that forced me to sit on bench for over 8 months. Now, to me, this was total torture. I have been playing for 10 years, playing all-year long club lacrosse. I just came back maybe a week ago. I have been running over 4 miles a day and it is STILL not getting me in ANY better shape. 8 months of NO running is hell to get back to shape. I do my normal work out, situps, weights, you name it. NOTHING seems to get me back to the standard where I can run long periods of time and not need an ambulance. I played my first game the other night and got my butt dusted! My footwork is horrible, feels like my one foot forgot how to function in fast speeds. I've done everything i can think of. Am i missing something? PLLLEAASE! I need suggestions!!

How long have you been conditioning since you were out of comission and at what intensity level? I'm not a physical trainer but I would imagine you've either overworked yourself or are not giving your body enough time to get used to this new regime and to playing.
You've only come back a week ago and are running 4+ miles and other things (your sit ups, etc.). I would think you need to give yourself a break. Not even Hollywood stars work out 7 days a week. I'm surprised your not sore enough to be unable to walk after being out that long and coming back so fast!
If its speed that seems to be your problem, you body probably just needs to get used to playing again (esp at game pace). You might also want to consider doing speed work, not just distance and weight lifting. Speed is a combination of many things and training for it can be really helpful.
Try doing ladder/footwork drills. Draw one in chalk or improvise in another way.
Just relax, take your time. You know you have skill in terms of stickwork and game sense if you've been playing so long but give your body time to really adjust. Nothing happens overnight.
