New NFHS Rule 7-13: Does not specify "head" coach as 4-28 does, is this a typo or can assistant coaches also request?
Are we going to let the coaches take out their rule books and show us our misapplication?
Have you ever flagged a coach for taking out his book during the game or at the half-time conference?

Personally, I'm going to construe rule 2-3 to mean that only the head coach can do this. Plus, the new 7-13 refers to "both coaches," which I believe implies head coaches, since there may be many assistant coaches. To imply that there are only two coaches means you must be talking about head coaches.
Personally, I don't care if a coach takes out his rulebook. It'll be a cold day on the lacrosse field before a coach knows that book better than I do, and if I'm wrong about a rule I want to know about it.
What I won't do is give them the time of day when they tell me to show them the rule I'm applying. The burden of proof is on them to prove to me that I'm wrong.
What I have done is flag coaches when they keep telling me I have the rule wrong when I know I don't. In particular, I flagged the guy who went nuts because I didn't have a count going in zone 2 (last years NCAA rules).

This is how i feel about it, all i can say is: bring it on!

There is nothing in either rule book that deals with the issue. If coach wants to argue with me and can show me that I'm wrong according to the rule book, I'll listen. I'm however confident enough with my rule book knowledge that 99% of the time he's wasting his timeout!
