In college/pros, when they catch then quickly shoot over the middle, they catch then make one or two small mini cradles and then shoot, all in less than a second usually.

I use to quick stick a lot when I played crease, it's easier on crease since you aren't shooting from a distance, but it takes some practice. If you're not playing crease, what I would do is like a quick half cradle thing once the ball hits your stick, to get it situated, then a quick shot.

I guess it just goes to show all the hours they put in to practice.

I think your problem along with A LOT of people is that you try to make the "quickstick" too quick. So, make a small "cradle" before you shoot, like mentioned above. If not you are practically batting the ball into the goal, instead of shooting the ball into the goal.

i think your problem may be that you're not fully catching the ball. You shouldn't need to cradle for a quickstick, that's why it's a quickstick. When you catch it, stay focused and give a little to let the ball settle in, then quickly redirect it into the net. No need for a cradle, even if it's small.

you can always try to choke up on your stick a little

choke up on your stick and catch the ball with really soft hands, so give with the ball when you catch it and then fire away.

At my school we have the saying. Catch it, feel it, pass it.
Just feel the ball in your stick for like a second, then get rid of it.

another things i do; work on catching it in sort of an shooting position, with yours arms and wrists ready to snap as soon as you catch...it's crazy hard to time at first, but pays its dividends in the end.

When you are trying to execute a quickstick you always need to do it smoothly, don't do it too abruptly or obviously too slow. You want to pull your stick slightly back as you are receiving the pass to cushion the impact and then do a small very quick cradle and then smoothly yet quickly pass or shoot the ball.
A couple of good drills that I have practiced for a while and told a few younger players I know have really helped my quickstick ability.
You can do this while just playing wallball or with a friend. I personally find it better with a friend because you can make it into a competition to see how many times you can go before you drop the ball.
Drill 1: What you first do is square up to the wall or your friend about 4 feet apart. You start off by getting into and standard passing rhythm and then start doing quicksticks back and forth going as fast as you can while being in control and not dropping the wall or throwing it away.
Drill 2: You do the same as the first drill except run in a straight line adjacent to your friend or the wall passing back and forth to the outside as you run. Make sure as you do this you try to implement the quickstick motion as you do the drill.
Lastly Drill 3: Not really a Drill its common sense. Go to a field with a few friends and run some standard quickstick drills. An example of a standard game situation is cutting towards your friend passing and towards the goal and the quickstick into the goal. Try that same thing except instead of shooting pass to another friend. Think up other game situations and practice your quicksticks.
-Edit:
Quick stick does not involve any type of cradle! It involves catching the ball properly and shooting properly.
You are very right, a terrible mishap on my part.
There is no cradle in a quickstick, I wasn't paying attention to what I wrote.

One of the biggest assets when trying to score off a feed on a cut is wrist strength. Every time you have a stick in your hands do everything as fast and as strong as you can. Repeat this until your wrists are sore and they'll get bigger and stronger. You need to throw fakes as fast as you can can and handle the stick with one hand as much as possible. Get creative with it, don't stop when your wrists get sore and get strong. Hope this helps.
