View Full Version : No Lacrosse
Our school does not offer lacrosse. My son (9th grade) is able to play in summer leagues and indoor leagues (off season) 1 hour south of home. I would like to start a club team in our area and have about 13-15 boys who are very interested, from 3 different schools in our area. Where do I go from here? We live in Centerburg Ohio. (Jon attends C-burg, I teach at East Knox and we have Mt. Vernon High school between us) Thanks in advance.

im in 9th grade and im trying to get a team at my school. 1st off, you'll probably need more players. 10 guys r on the field at a time so 13-15 probably wont make it. the average team has 25-30 players on it, so try and get more. 2nd, you have to keep hackling your son's school's Athletic Director. Set up meetings with him, you and your son and some lacrosse coaches from around your area and tell the AD all about the game and how it is growing and it would be a great investment in the school and for the athletic program. don't take any crap from him because if you do he'll roll all over you. (that happened to my mom the 1st meeting we had.) Last, get some parents that would be willing to start a "Lacrosse Booster Club" sorta deal. That way, you have experienced money handlers for the team to purchase insurance, jerseys, game apparel for players and spectators, sponsers ect. I hope this helps and good luck on the team. It's great to see Lacrosse expanding all over the country!
Thanks for your input. I don't think our AD will even speak to me, so I contacted our local YMCA and talked to the director. She was pumped and said that the Y would love to sponsor a team, provide the equipment and indoor facility for a club team. Now I just have to get the kids, contact other club teams and learn everything I can because I will probably be the driving force behind this.
