Cheating on Faceoffs??

i was just wondering who all cheats on faceoffs, and by cheating i mean grabbing the ball with your hand. ill be the first to tell you that i do cheat on faceoff. also i find it much easier the get the ball out in front of me and create a fast break. also, it is very rare when i lose or get caught while cheating so im thinking about doing every time. i know that a lot of college f/o guys cheat because i was taught by 2 college plyers from a very good d1 school (im not saying the name).

be honest. you arent going to get ridiculed by admitting you cheat.

if you do cheat, what method do you use, and how do you beat a cheater?

I don't cheat just because my team has (not trying to brag) the three best face off guys in the league. Between the one kid, the other and me we lost about 10 faceoffs out of like 100 or so. So in short, no I don't cheat because I don't think its necessary.

heres a good one
if you lost the clamp but can keep a guy jammed up, grab his sidewall and get his head off the ball. i discovered that in practice about a week ago.

its really hard to but ill try...

you set up with your thumbs interlocked ( so your hands are right next to eachother ). you go down with both hands right next to eachother as close to the plastic as possible. when the whistle is blown you go to clamp but u slide your head down the line and grab the ball with your hands and flick it out to yourself (i awlays flick it out in front of myself to create fast breaks). its basically all grip that makes it special.

ya i usually do that, but i do it the color of my head not my gloves.

although i dont condone cheating, i do find myself cheating on the wings of a face-off(as lsm)[still a part of face-off crew right?] sometimes.
not so much cheating, but if the other guy is riding me really hard trying to shut me off, then i will line up with my hands wide and high up near the head of the shaft, and when the whistle is blown, i will jab the end of my shaft into the guys ribs. it is illegal, but it is the best way to shake him off me real quick. there are countless other ones that i am too lazy to mention.

theres a little trick for wing guys that i noticed while watching a universtiy of michigan game right before the reff blows the whistle you take the bottom part of shaft and poke the guy on his opposit shoulder and he turns around while you run.

If I get beat to the clamp, I will hold up the opponents stick and pull the ball out of the back of his head. I'll also lean as much as possible and try to get as close to the ball as possible.

I'll get my hand on my plastic, two finger quick clamps, grab their heard/stick and redirect the ball, snag the ball out of their head completely, helmet to the knee, knee on their shaft to draw a withholding call, stomp on their foot/shaft to the shins if they cleanly push it forward, jump then use my hand to get the ball out, use my bottom hand to grab the butt of his shaft if he gets the clamp but hasn't gotten the ball out yet.

i just mentioned that three posts above yours; well kinda, just an actual way that works. post #16 i believe.
you dont really poke him in the shoulder, you just poke him hard. that way it gets him to stumble or get startled on the wing, giving you the clear advantage.
plus, im sure middies arent that dumb to turn around when being poked.

Yea i use my hands alot actually. On the whistle if i lose the clamp/jump or whatever and its like 50/50 or more like 75/25 on his side, ill use my hands to get his head off the ball and try to grab the ball with my hand and flick it out. Works pretty well esp against ppl who dont get it out quickly.

if you even just tape the head at the throat and a little down the shaft you wont get called for having your heads on the plastic, and my new favorite one is when your getting beat to the clamp you jump and jam him and with your top hand get under his head and pull it out to your wing man, really simple and effective

I don't see why yall cheat at all. If you have to cheat then your oblivously not good enough to face-off. Besides the one person that cheated against me just got my d-pole yard selling him when he tossed the ball out with his hand. Plus it just lowers the quality of the game and we don't need that.

i disagree with you completely. its not a skill issue its just being creative and creating more opportunities for you and your team. some of the best f/o men use their hands. you go ahead and not cheat all you want but when you lose everytime dont complain.

anyways, some kids realize that sometimes you have to do what you can do bring your team up. almost every team i have ever played cheats in some way. although you want your team to be as classy as possible, it is very hard when the faceoff game is centered around your fogo's tactics. the entire faceoff unit is all about tactics, and some teams are willing to do whatever it takes; this doesnt mean blatant cheating, it means giving yourself the advantage in a subtle way.

another one i was taught was use a handlebar grip and then pin down the guys wrist thats higher up then use your hand to flick it out

how is it "lowering the quality of the game". the best d1 and mll f/o men use their hands. u can have your opinion but the proof is there. look at alex smith, hes the best f/o man in the country right? alex uses his hands some times. so your just goin to have to accept the fact that the game is changing at the x and your going to have to deal with it.

If the other guy is really annoying me by cheating alot, once the ref blows the whistle ill jump forward and crack down on his wrists with my shaft. Not only will he lose the face-off, but his wrists will hurt too.

ya he does it so quick that the refs played a tape of him doing it in slow motion and they still couldnt tell. thats true skill right there.

I suck..SUCK at cheating, but I get pretty creative with counters and clamps etc.... When my opponent bends my head off the ball though...... I take the butt end of my stick get it behind his stick and yank that thing out, that or he turns and does the work for me.
