Is it a good or bad idea to use a treadmill to get faster since you cant really get that quick burst when you start sprinting on a treadmill and you have to wait for it to speed up.also a treadmill never really reaches your top speed.
Is it ok to just run with the treadmill on top speed or should i do my sprints in a park somewhere.
One last question is would it be best to only do high speeds on a treadmill or should i do high speed short distance one day and long distance slow speed the other. Im already a pretty fast kid but i dont know what i should do to get even faster so if anybody has some tips or something please list them. thanks

it's probably better for long distance, to help for the up and down running of the game

Concentrate on intervals on a treadmill, ie, sprint with it on 10mph for a minute, drop the speed back to 5 mph for 2 minutes, and repeat. Don't just put it on say 6mph and run for half an hour, that won't do nearly as much for your game because never in lacrosse are you running at a comfortable, uniform pace for long periods.

You are correct it's not the best for very short bursts at top speed (ie, catching a pass and running towards the goal), but it's still an excellent way to get conditioning. Keep in mind that towards the end of the game, if the fastest player in the world is tired, he's not going to be nearly as fast or effective.

There is no point to spend a lot of money on a treadmill. The benefits will in no way be better then spending 10 bucks on cones and running sprints in a 2:1 ratio.

Here are some sites that will help you with PROPER training

A variety of training links. Scroll down and you can search for what you are looking for.

There are many areas in this forum about training as well and I use a post in lacrosse forum that I am unable to post here.

The next thing to do is read up on diets and supplements.

There are websites that calculate your daily caloric intake.

If you have any questions message me at Seanmhdelaplace@gmail.com and make sure you make sure I can tell it's you.

Always,

I think it would good to use both, treadmill and sprinting outside. If you're looking for a challenge on the treadmill you could increase the incline that's great for leg strength. Also I've said it before and can't stress it enough, when you run you want to vary the distances you run. You don't want to run all LD or all sprints you want to do your winning workouts in almost intervals sprint then jog slower the accelerate again.

I'm going to make a bold statement: Treadmills can't make you faster. Speed is the combination of technique and strength. You get neither from a treadmill. Run outdoors, if the weather is bad, find an indoor place to run. Talk to a speed coach, most people can gain a few tenths by correcting their arm swing. Use the treadmill for conditioning only.
