Women's College Lax

Stupid question but I'm asking for my own curiosity..Has there been anybody (guy or gal) that has gone to play Lacrosse in college that is under 5 feet tall?? I'm pretty short, 4'10" and I don't know if colleges will overlook me b/c of my height disadvantage..comments welcomed :-)

I'm sure there have been but I have never heard of anyone under 5' playing top D1 college ball.

I'm personally having the same issue, I'm 4'11" and a defender. My height does not help my case much so I try to work on other things like my speed and stick skills to show that though I may be short I can still play like the other girls.

In my opinion I think there are some schools who might overlook a good player because of height but they wont overlook a great one. If you work really hard at developing your game and become really good it wont be that much of a big deal I think. Its a good question to ask the coach of the schools that your communicating with in order to see what they are really looking for.

Don't let that bother you! My best friend is 4'10"...she plays defense, and she is absolutely a thrill to watch. Her footwork and stick skills completely dominate. She was just accepted on scholarship to a D-1 school. You know what her coach told her? "i'd take an awesome 4'10" defender over a lukewarm 5'6"". It's true. It's not like it's basketball. :laugh: You go for it!!

Yay!! That makes me happy to hear that there are more of us "shortys" out there!! I know I forgeot to mention this b4 but I play defense also. Its funny when u see like stunned 5'5" attackers after you get the ball from them. Thanks so much for your advice!

I don't think any of my D1 teammates were actually under 5', but we had some very good players who were close (including an All-American who was about 5'1").

Also, how old are you? I grew about 6 inches during high school, so it's possible you'll be over 5' when you go to college! There's even an article in the latest US Lax magazine about a goalie who grew an inch between her junior and senior years in college!

im almost 17, im a junior in hs..i wish that i could grow a little bit more, but im already done growing..it's okay though cuz as they say "Good things come from small packages." :chuckle:
