I play defense and i know that our varsity squad has a solid defense. Im looking at little to no playing time next season. I played midfield in 9th grade and switched to defense for 10th grade. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts to share on the idea of switching from defense to midfield for the sake of playing time? Thanks

You could always play lsm and prove your good enough for close d. Or you could slowly go from lsm to a short stick defensive middie. Either way you should a fair amount of playing time.

i had 4 goals as a defensemen, we went 12-4, something like 40 groundballs. ive played travel too.
enjoi- unless i hit a growth spurt, im not guna make it to D, our coach never changes the defense out and im only 5'7" 135lbs. idk i like defense its fun i get onto travel teams only as a d stick, but i dont think ill play because my D coach rarely switches out poles.

well then just be a defensive midi, while the offense has posession stay bak near the mid line, that wat our defensive mids do

yeah thats not a bad idea the offensive coach has the middies play mostly D until he feels they can do offense

Your height is fine for close d. If there is one thing I have learned it's that there is no specific body type for any of the positions in lax. Your height isn't going to stop you from excelling at any position. But like I said give lsm a try and if you are good enough hopefully you'll get your shot at close d. Maybe you'll discover you love lsm or that you play better d with a short stick. You never know and you got some time to play around with the different positions before your season starts.

you got to be ready to contribute a little bit though, you cant just camp bak there all day, also wen on the offensive side, u gotta watch fast brks wit the long pole stopping a fast brk take a lot weight off the defensives mans shoulders

yeah i think LSM sounds the best out of all of these. a short stick just doesnt agree with me. i really have no bid for middie, i jsut want playing time. but LSM sounds like a great option, thanks for your advice guys.

any other input is more than welcomed.

Same thing with me im going into 10th, like but with inverted. Our team has a really solid middy line and i played mid most of last year but switched because im big 5'10 190 and dont have quite the shot for midfield. Now im playing lsm and i love it, not a ton of play time but you get to posses the ball a good bit and throw sex checks. Id say you are gonna have a blast at lsm

exact same positon as me. We have 5 solid poles on Varsity. next year, my Junior year, i'm switching to Middie to get playing time. Our middies aren't that good, so i think I'll get solid playing time. I'd say switch to middie. you already have the footwork for D down, so that will help you with middie D.

LSM sounds like your best option, but isnt there a starting LSM?

my varsity coach made me switch form defense to midfield just so i would be on the field cause my school has so many defenders already.

we only have 6 defenders but 2 of them arent that good to say the least. theyre all bigger than me so i dont see much time playing. not to sound conceited but i was the best pole on JV statistically. so im not worried about kids in my grade. im guna try LSM because i hate the short stick. i have a feeling my coach will put me in that defensive line sooner or later. another problem i cant fix is senior privledges.

but hey thanks for the advice everyone, really helped me think more rationally.

more input is welcome, as always.

senority? maybe because someone has been trying really, really hard for 4 years of lacrosse, and maybe he is not as naturally athletic, but he puts in the effort? Some programs stress this, others do not, it depends.

LSM is so much fun, I like it better than close d anyway, on the count that I'm smaller yet run like the devil =]
