Using a pinched head can bad if the ball gets stuck in your head, but its great for fast breaks, not recomended though

I usually stay away from the slap checks i prefer poke checking, theres a lesser chance of over commiting to ur man

Practice and perfect them.
Also, the padding is all preference.

If u want to do a slap check, for the love of god dont twist ur hips, thats how defenders get beat. Try to keep an even stance and shuffle ur feet.
Power isnt necessary if ur a good defender
