Decided to make a multi question quiz about crease and goalie interference violations. All of them are done when team “B” has the ball and are trying to clear it. B1 is always the goalkeeper and he is in the crease unless stated otherwise. I will try to move from basic questions to more advanced ones. For answers try to explain should the ball become dead if so which team gets it where and if there are any time serving penalties. Note differences in the two codes (I don’t think there are any though)
Also if going though this you are about 99% sure of the answers let other people answer first (unless no one does).
Hopefully I can create some quizzes for when team A has the ball and when the ball is loose.
1)B1 has the ball after a save and makes an outlet pass that goes out of bounds while at least one foot was in the crease, however on his (a) normal throwing motion, (b) exaggerated throwing motion, or (c) violent throwing motion he hits A1 who is stationary outside of the crease.
2)B1 makes a save on the shoot at which point A1 checks B1’s stick when A1 is outside of the crease. Then while in the crease B1 completes a pass to B2 who is in the defensive half of the field and then (a) throws the ball to A2 or (b) throws the ball to B3 who moves the ball past midfield.
3)B1 makes a save on the shoot and then A1 enters the crease and (a) does (b) does not make contact with the goalkeeper who then throws an incomplete pass from within the crease where B2 cannot cleanly field the ball.
4)B1 makes a save on the shoot and then A1 enters the crease and (a) does (b) does not make contact with the goalkeeper who then throws a pass from within the crease where B2 catches the ball but cannot clear the ball past midfield.
5)B1 makes a save on the shoot and runs out of the crease and passes the ball to B2 who is in the crease. A1 then stick checks B2 creating a loose ball that enters into the goal. A1’s foot (a) was (b) was not on the crease line.
6)B1 makes a save and is stick checked by A1 while in the crease. B1 leaves the crease at which point team B fails to clear the ball.
7)B1 makes a save and is stick checked by A1 while in the crease. B1 stays in the crease for 4 seconds.
8)B1 makes a save and is stick checked by A1 while in the crease. B2 then sets an illegal screen on A2.
9)B1 makes a save and then leaves the crease with the ball. A1 then enters the crease in pursuit.
10)B1 makes a save and then passes the ball to B2. The goalie then attempts to leave the crease but A1 enters the crease and screens the goalie.
11)B1 makes a save and then runs out of the crease at which time B2 enters the crease. B2 attempts to leave the crease but A1 enters the crease and screens B2.
12)B1 makes a save. A1 steps into the crease and slashes B1.

No one wants to bite? Was this too easy (i.e. everyone knew the answers), to hard, to confusing, to boring, or other?

I was holding off to give other people a chance. For me, I thought it was easy, but I don't think I was your target audience.
FWIW, quizzes longer than 5 questions often don't hold the attention of some of our younger viewers. I keep getting notes from the network about that all-important 14-15 demographic. :chuckle:

Well, everyone else has had plenty of time to answer, so I'll take a shot. I'll be answering NCAA rules unless I notice something I know is different for NFHS. I won't look anything up in the rulebook.
1)B1 has the ball after a save and makes an outlet pass that goes out of bounds while at least one foot was in the crease, however on his (a) normal throwing motion, (b) exaggerated throwing motion, or (c) violent throwing motion he hits A1 who is stationary outside of the crease.
(a) Goalie interference, play on until pass goes out. Award ball to B just over midfield. (b) I'd have to see it. If he's doing it intentionally to try to get a call, it might be a no-call. Could also be a slash. (c) Flag down, delay whistle until ball goes out of bounds. B1 serves 1:00-3:00, depending on severity, and team A gets the ball where it went out of bounds or on its offensive end of the field if ball went out on other side.
Goalie interference, play on. Play on ends when pass is completed.
3)B1 makes a save on the shoot and then A1 enters the crease and (a) does (b) does not make contact with the goalkeeper who then throws an incomplete pass from within the crease where B2 cannot cleanly field the ball.
Crease violation, play on. (a) Now it's also goalie interference, play on. If the pass is incomplete but can be immediately scooped up by B2, allow the play on to continue for a moment longer; otherwise, blow play dead and award to team B over midfield. (b) is an interesting one. You'd think it would also be a free clear for the crease violation with goalie possession inside the crease; however, the rulebook only mentions a free clear for interference with possession. Thus, award the ball to team B outside the attack area or where the ball was as soon as the ball hits the ground (no provision for allowing the play on to continue in this case).
EDIT: As I mentioned in another thread, (b) should actually be a free clear. It's stuck in Rule 7, away from the rest of the crease rules, for no apparent reason. To summarize, a crease violation with possession in the crease is a free clear if the goalie doesn't run the ball out or complete a clearing pass.
4)B1 makes a save on the shoot and then A1 enters the crease and (a) does (b) does not make contact with the goalkeeper who then throws a pass from within the crease where B2 catches the ball but cannot clear the ball past midfield.
Similar to (3), except once the pass is complete the play-on is over. Too bad for B2 that he can't clear the ball!
5)B1 makes a save on the shoot and runs out of the crease and passes the ball to B2 who is in the crease. A1 then stick checks B2 creating a loose ball that enters into the goal. A1’s foot (a) was (b) was not on the crease line.
(a) Immediate whistle when A1 commmits the crease violation. No goal. (b) Goal is good. Interference applies only to the designated goalkeeper in his crease.
6)B1 makes a save and is stick checked by A1 while in the crease. B1 leaves the crease at which point team B fails to clear the ball.
Goalie interference, play on. The play on ends when B1 leaves the crease.
7)B1 makes a save and is stick checked by A1 while in the crease. B1 stays in the crease for 4 seconds.
Goalie interference, play on. Blow whistle when 4-count expires, award ball to team B over midfield.
8)B1 makes a save and is stick checked by A1 while in the crease. B2 then sets an illegal screen on A2.
Goalie interference, play on. The illegal screen on B2 ends the play on, with team B still being awarded the free clear.
9)B1 makes a save and then leaves the crease with the ball. A1 then enters the crease in pursuit.
Flag down due to the crease violation with possession outside the crease. A1 will serve 30-second technical unless a goal is scored on the flag-down situation. Free clear on the time-serving penalty.
10)B1 makes a save and then passes the ball to B2. The goalie then attempts to leave the crease but A1 enters the crease and screens the goalie.
Flag down, as in (9). Could potentially throw two flags, one for the crease violation and one for interference. A1 will serve one or two 30-second penalties unless a goal is scored on the flag-down situation. Free clear on the time-serving penalty.
11)B1 makes a save and then runs out of the crease at which time B2 enters the crease. B2 attempts to leave the crease but A1 enters the crease and screens B2.
Same as (10). In this case, it's a garden-variety interference, not a goalie interference, if you decide to call both the crease violation and the interference.
12)B1 makes a save. A1 steps into the crease and slashes B1.
Crease violation, play-on for stepping into the crease. Flag down for the slash, slow whistle (but be alert to the possibility of killing the play to keep things from escalating). A1 serves 1:00-3:00 and team B gets a free clear. Depending on what I saw, A1 could very likely get 1:00-3:00 USC instead of just the slash call since he's going after the goallie in his own crease.
How'd I do?

How'd I do?
That’s what I was looking for. Obviously it was wayyyyyyyyyyyy to long. Should have made one or two questions that dealt with some of the concepts I was trying to point out. First that the play-on ends if the pass is complete or the ball carrier ran out of the crease. Second that only G.I. results in a free clear (when compared to crease violations). Finally that yes there is such a thing as a time serving crease violation. Had that happen to me back to back nights doing indoor lax (and only seen or called it once before in my 10 years of playing/officiating the sport) so motivated me to go nuts with questons. It is played on an indoor-soccer facility so the size of the field comes into play.

I've called it a number of times, mostly, as you, indoors, but a few times outdoors. It does tend to confuse people.
It happened the first season I started officiating, about my third or fourth indoor game (and game of any kind). The first time I saw it, I didn't know what to do, but I was in the habit of re-reading the rules every week to try to pick up new stuff based on what I'd seen in my games, and I discovered that a flag down was the correct call. The next week, when it happened again, I got the call right, and one of the veteran officials (and former national secretary!) came over and commented how it seemed like I reallly knew the rules. I'm pretty sure he was talking about that call.
I have called it a few times outdoors, but not often.

Why wait for the ball to go out of bounds LR? Since it is a loose ball at the time of the pass, isn't it an immediate flag for a slash or USC? Any personal foul by the team with possession or during a loose ball draws an immediate whistle, true?
While you may be getting at TPOAD, I don't know that it applies here.

Yeah, immediate whistle. The slash is by the team in possession in this case--which is unusual--so the play is dead with the foul.
Normally if there's a slash with the ball in flight, you hold off on the whistle until the ball hits the ground because the team that threw the pass (and got slashed) can continue to play if the ball is caught.
