So I was at my local health food store picking up some whey protein and I saw this vegan rice protein. I was wondering if this would have the same effect as regular whey protein. It was a bit cheaper and I didn't check but i figured it would have less calories as well.

i practically live at GNC (especially the first week of the month) but i've never seen or heard of the vegan rice protein. but on this site:
http://www.vitacost.com/NutriBioticVeganRiceProteinPowder it says that its like powder combination of soy milk, wheat, eggs, etc. so i guess its supposed to be healthier like that FNC energy drink.

GNC is not awesome, over priced if you ask me. IMO Rice protein is junk, i gain a ton more from whey. if you really wanna gain, get some Cytogainer stuff is amazing.

No, I don't think you have to be 18 to buy whey. I'm 16 and I bought it without a problem. But I look a little older so they may have just thought I was over 18

What's bad about whey that would necessitate an age limit?

There's no age limit on whey. Taking whey is no different than eating a chicken breast. Overall if your diet is in tact, you don't even need whey, just look at the nutrition facts in the food you're eating, and count up how many grams of protein you're taking in everyday.
