So, I've looked over the NCAA rulebook, and I have a few thoughts:

Good: Greatly simplified "Field not meeting specifications," removing contradictory A.R.s and making it much clearer.

Bad: Left in the "when not offsides" section again, which as far as I can tell was made irrelevant years ago by the stacking penalty rule.

Good: Removed "Chief bench official" section from rules since they decided not to use a CBO any longer.

Bad: Didn't remove other references in the rules to the CBO.

Good: Got rid of all of the ridiculous defensive stalling rules by making it a 20-second count to get over midfield.

Bad: Didn't remove all of the references to re-entering the defensive zone and defensive 10-counts.

Good: Put in A.R. to cover goal scored and then player found not to have required equipment other than mouthpiece.

Bad: Didn't clarify some points in need of clarification (e.g., whether the penalty for a ball not rolling out of the stick should be 1:00 or 3:00)

Bad: Didn't fix numerous typos, including the last A.R. in the book (which calls for a play on after an inadvertant whistle!), A.R.s in the wrong section, sections of repeated text, and other items that should have been changed to reflect rule changes.

TBD: Faceoff changes. I think they'll be good, but I reserve judgment until I see how it works in practice.

TBD: Timeout changes. Again, I think it will be for the best, but we'll see.

Overall, I think they made some improvements, but they need another proofreader on the job. I'm available! :chuckle:

As for the items you mentioned, I would agree.

As for actually sitting down and seriously studying the new changes, ask me tonight. I am about 30 minutes away from heading to our District meeting.

YEA, LACROSSE SEASON IS HERE!!! Meetings today and the first official games next weekend.
