Sup all,

i wanna play D2 or D3 lax in college. Getting recruited would be awesome but being a walk on would be no problem either. can someone go through the whole process of both, like does the coach come see you play at your high school game, or what? im still confused about the whole process. ive been playin for 2 years non stop and on my schools varsity team. i got into a few colleges with D2 and D3 teams and i really want to play, what should i expect once i send the recruiting questionnaire out?

thanks!

never really looked at kean, a friend of mine goes there and hes going for a business degree... i forgot to say im going to for political science with emphasis on prelaw, so all the colleges i choose have to have that (surprisingly enough, alot dont, franklin pierce doesnt).

thanks for the suggestion, im definately going to check it out.

here are the colleges that i applied to:

southern new hampshire university
new england college
western new england college
franklin pierce college
american international college
hofstra (great law school)

E-mail the coaches letting them know your interested in playing and tell them about yourselfs. If you can go to some of the schools games and get an idea of their teams style. Apply for the NCAA clearinghouse so you get that out of the way. If you start talking to the coach try and get him to come watch you play and see what works out form there.

Well just some ideas:
1. Contact the coaching staff at the schools you are interested in. A simple email will get the ball rolling usually...some schools have online interest forms you can submit...don't worry if you don't hear from them the next day...they get literally hundreds in some cases and it takes some time to sort it all out.
2. As suggested by a previous poster...go through the NCAA clearinghouse process. Its something you are gonna have to do anyway.
3. Put together a resume of sorts that highlights your athletic and academic records, awards, social activities (volunteering, etc) etc. Any game footage that you have of you playing, etc. (like highlight stuff)
4. Assemble some recommendations if you can. Teachers, coaches, etc.

The biggest thing you need to watch out for is the NCAA rules of athletic elegibility. Its a tricky thing sometimes. My best suggestion is to get a copy of the rules and read them. And make sure if you have any questions you contact the NCAA or someone knowledgable about the rules to answer your questions. Its VERY important that you are aware of the rules.

thanks for the replies! the only thing about making an all star resume is that i havent had that much experience. ive been playing for 2 years, but a solid, every day two years. i wanna play, but i dont want to have to pay for a club.

yea i was in the same situation as you... i wrote and called the coaches of the schools i applied to... the ones that showed alot of interest in me i pursured..... i sent em tapes... recomendation letters and other stuff.... they are gonna come down in the season to make sure they made a sound investment in giving me a scholarship.... so yea... i got recruited/recruited myself.... if you dont make it happen.... it usually wont.... example.... leading scorer in NY was on my team.... hes my best friend.... although he scored so many goals he never sent out any kind of tape or anything and by the time he was leading scorer in NY it was too late for him to be recruited.... he now has to wait a year to play.... unfortunantly hes going to special forces for the army in june which sucks cause if his mom had let him go to the navy acadamy he would have been replacing dingman.... this kid is litterally the best all around person at everything ive ever seen in my life.... so to make this long story short make it happen for yourself or it wont happen

hey ... one of my neighbors is at wnec ... its a fairly tough program to make ... not to discourage you at all ... but they are d3, but its still a fairly large commentment ... i know the coach from that program too through camps and such, and he's no slouch

i dont have much other first hand knowledge with any of the othr schools ... well sorta with univ of southern NH which i heard was a good program but not crazy by any means, sorta what your prolly looking for to be honest ... anyway, this is just a heads up that some of those schools (hofstra, wnec...) might not be powerhouses but they certainly arent gonna be the easiest to just walk onto.

on the other hand, two kids from my grade have walked onto lacrosse teams (both are at Eastern CT St Univ) and they are doing well ... so just cuz your not recruited doesnt mean you wont play, but just be prepared that it isnt really a club ball atmosphere. they treat it quite serious at most of those schools

and i know this sounds like a downer, but its not that at all ... i just wanted to let you know ... not saying you cant, just lettin you know

i woudl seriously look at souther NH tho .. sounds like what your prolly looking for as long as they have your major and everything

im fully prepared for a hardcore enviornment. im a drum corps captain for god sakes haha. i dont want to play club also for that reason, that its a relaxed enviornment. id rather be on a losing, but serious team than on a relaxed but high scoring team. i talked to the coach from wnec, coach klepacki, hes getting back to me on the expectancies to play on the team.

i already got into american international college with a scholarship, so i emailed the new head lax coach and requested some info. theyre 0-11 last season, but it doesnt hurt to try. getting recruited or walking on, it doesnt matter to me, i just need to play.

Kleo over at WNEC is a good guy who knows what he's doing. They've really turned into a pretty decent program of late and they always give Springfield a good game. They play a lot of games against a lot of tough opponents. I have a few friends on the team and they enjoy playing there. However, don't think that just because it's a varsity team and not a club, it won't cost you anything. You will be paying for your airfare for WNEC's spring trip which is usually down to Florida. You'll probably have to shell out money for food and equipment and stuff even though WNEC has a pretty sweet deal with Warrior. Anyways, that's just my 2 cents on WNEC, which is the only program on your list which I'm familiar with.

hey bro i got recruited by both stockton and kean after only a year's experience. just let the coach get a good long look at you. but most importantly, make sure you go to the school that's best for you, not the team.
