hi i just had a question. i will be going to college next year and do not really want to play lacrosse THAT seriously. so im thinking of joining a team that is a club team. do these college club teams usually let you borrow gear or do you have to pay for all of it yourself

You'd have to pay for it yourself...and since its a club team, you pay for all the traveling and whatnot too..

I know that there is alot of options if you want to play lacrosse even here in Florida. In Tallahassee there is a club team that plays every season, and if your at college chances are you have an intermural team. Google your college and the word lacrosse, or better yet search for it on this site, you may be able to find someone at the school you want to go to. Dirty South Lacrosse!

Depends on the school... At my school, no player is to be turned away because they cannot afford to play, so we have gear paid for out of the student budget. Probably 12 sets of gear, and we're a club team, but most schools aren't like that. No we don't take it as seriously as many Varsity programs, but the Spring is for lacrosse, and we want to win a national championship. We practice 4 days a week, dues were $80 per player, plus shorts if you want to keep them. Outside of that, we work a few sporting events in the Fall to fund the rest of the season.
Not all club teams are very low key. Stanford is club, so is, UCSB, Colorado State, Michigan, and Oregon. All are very hard core, and some are playing D3 teams this year. Feel free to email me with any questions you have, I can even get you in touch with the coaches of the schools your interested in attending, or let you know which schools you're interested in have a club lacrosse team.

True, my "standpoint" was from the Michigan point of view, because I know their coach..
But they say they raise alot of money so not alot of the dues are that expensive..

To give you an idea, fundraising only goes so far, but for a mid top 25 team in the USLIA, I've heard rumors of budgets of over 35,000. Dues can easily get into the 1500 range. I believe UW is close to 1000, Oregon near 1400 and so on... I've heard horror stories of Michigans budget, but ours, for 25 guys, is close to 8,000, plus the national tournament. Thank goodness we have a University that supports us, I didn't at PLU. We fundraised all through the fall, and did a laxathon. 100 hours of lacrosse, no breaks. Everyone works shifts, in early December. I did a 6 hour shift, 12-6 am, in partial hail and snow.... I'm glad my guys don't have to do that kind of thing.

At Va Tech our budget was approximately what you suggested there, $35 grand +. Our dues were $1200 for the season (about 40 guys), including airfare/lodging for a week trip in LA during spring break. We did 0 in the way of fundraising.

I coach at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma Washington. The laxathon does a few things; it gets awareness from other students (meaning more fans, we love a home field advantage), each player is required $200 in donations (25*200=$5000). Everyone is required to work however many hours makes 100 straight. Rain, shine, and usually lots of rain and wind, it's pretty fun. Aside from the $200/player, we have done no dues for the top person on donations, just personalize it. League dues were about $3500 this year for our team, and a trip to nationals is going to run $6 or so... Hopefully less if you can stay at a player's home.
