Is there any interest out there for a real womens professional contact lacrosse league in the united States ?

I'm going to guess little to no interest. Soccer has developed into a huge thing in the US and yet the WUSA flopped. Although WNBA continues to do well. I don't think the male pro game is at a level where I feel that optmistic about its existence in 10 years (outdoor, I know indoor has existed a long time but it, stemming from Canada so heavily, does nothing for an argument about a US league). But I long for the day when both leagues can flourish.

the WNBA is not doing well, it's just that most of its teams are backed up by NBA owners and the league itself is controlled by the NBA. When they lose that grip, the team is screwed. For example, Cleveland's WNBA team was let go of by the Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA) owner, and the team is in limbo right now.

I think having a Women's Field Lacrosse League (regular womens lacrosse rules...no contact) would be a bit more imaginable. However, an older article in US Lacrosse Magazine showed how womens leagues in general are not going to make it in this world, at this point at least.

I remember that article. I really don't think a women’s game would work at all.
1. The game would not translate to the average sports fan
2. The college game is not around because of the attendance or interest, they are being pulled along by Title XI. Doing a little research I found 4,735 was the biggest attendance at a women's championship game ( http://www.ncaasports.com/lacrosse/womens/story/arc_story/17751 ) and those kind of figures would not work for a major league.

Quick answer: Not any time soon.

Unfortunetly, I agree with everyone else.

While a women's professional league would be fantastic the fan base, money, and overall support is just not there. For a little while Warrior was sponsering two teams in a league called Versus. The two teams wore Warrior gear and played exhibition games at Warrior summer tournaments for something like two years (at the most). They were really popular at the tournaments because there would be a long break without any playing action where everyone would go see the Versus teams (I think they were known as Blue and Orange but I dont remember, just that they wore those colors). The teams basically consisted of post-collegiate players from all over. I heard rumors that USLacrosse told their world team members after a little while that they could no longer play for Versus because of competition. The US team was mad because they had been advertising themselves as the most elite level of play while Versus came in and did the same...kind of trespassing on US team territory I guess. If this is true then Versus thereby lost a lot of their good players and would have had trouble getting teams anyway. After I heard this there were no more Versus events I heard of.

I'm not sure if ya'll have already stated this, i only skimmed over. But they have a "semi-pro" women's league called "Versus". Some of you girls who go to the big tournaments around the Annapolis, MD area even others up and down the east coast could have seen hoodies that say things like "Kitty VS. Other", "Big VS. Bad", "Christina VS. Britney", etc. These were made up to create more money to benefit the VERSUS league. They were created by Christa Samaras and a few others.

Also, theres this camp, called BLAST held by Christa Samaras and some other US womens atheletes. that money also goes towards the versus league.

Unfortunately, i dont think there will ever be enough money to pay fulltime women lacrosse players like others have already mentioned.
