Already which do you think is more important, and would be more useful. Learning different set "plays" to use on offense, or just mastering the different formations (1-4-1, 2-3-1, etc...) and what kind of things work best in each?

I would teach 2 set ISO's, maybe set shot play, but then focus on a single formation until you get it right... I would add more formations as you can. It's important your players know how to move, or there is no point teaching the offense, so depending on the level, you may have to adjust. A 2-3-1 with two triangle rotations may be a good thing to teach the players if they are young and just starting.

i think running different formations works a lot, A LOT, better...

with formations, u just work the ball until u can make a move... plays confuse a lot of people...

my skool runs a 2-2-2 (double triangle, its called the henninger offense) and it works like a charm... u dont need to worry about who cuts where, its just a simple rotation... i like formations a lot better, they flow a lot better
