When I put 12d in my stick, do I need open sidewalls to have a decent pocket?

Haha, wait until MClothier answers this. No, you don't need open sidewalls. Just try to skip holes in the mesh and scrunch it up, this will give you a much deeper pocket.

You only need open sidewalls if you have a really bad piece of mesh that isnt wide enough and gives you zero pocket.

Viper- Does your eclipse have a ton of whip? And are your sidewalls taught or a little loose?

It has absolutely no whip, it actually throws high for people who try it for the first time. The sidewalls are tight, especially with a ball in the pocket.

outburst- thank u for the intro... haha. anyway, no i fiind it to be the best with closed sidewalls- more ball control bc the mesh doesnt move around as much, and better accuracy. first, soak the mesh in hot water, and stretch the **** out of it, then pat it sry with a towel, and begi nto string it. when doin the sidewalls, skip maybe 1 diamond (w/ 12d u dont really have to, but strign the top nice and tight, then start skip diamonds if u want to get a nice arc in the pocket- when looking from the side) if u need help- u can look at my pics in some of the other goalie strigning threads for reference
