considering your from GA uve prolly played only 1-3 yrs and its more of technique than strength for shooting. At least all the kids ive played with In GA, played for 4yrs at Most and there generally not even close to NY material. There are exeptions, but most are beginners.

What are some good drills to improve shot speed

i have pretty good form and right now i do 80 time & room from 4 different spots on the field and then do 30 on the run shots from above and behind

I want to get really good but I need some encouragement to know that what I am doing is the right thing

when you shoot, try making it overhand and quick. and when you shoot, do weight shifts, like just before you release you lean all your weight foward. it may not work at first, but try different timeing, youll know when it works. I shoot mid 70s lefty and shot like 40 righty, then tried weith shifts, now i shoot mid 60s with a simple weight shift, i also shoot that hard cuz im ambidextrious. I bat righty, golf, hockey, lax left. and i write right handed? IDK im weird. What your doing sounds right, i practice in my backyard 7 days a week, for 1-3 hours EVERYDAY! After a while calm down, 3min each day, just practice more when you feel your not getting any better or getting worse. And do pushups. Im 15 and do 5 reps of 30 everynight, greatly improves shot speed.

You really are crankin out threads pretty quick.
It's generally a bad idea to ask average shot speed, since so many people like to lie and say they shoot 90 both hands on the run.
Don't worry about how fast you shoot, just know it could always be faster. Grab a bucket of balls and just go shoot. Make sure you're really torquing your body and keeping your arms extended.
Lax 4 Lif3, that's a pretty broad generalization. I've played with a lot of great guys from Georgia.

i know, i moved here from NY and its a HUGE difference to me. But ive played with some really good kids, and some total noobs. mostly total noobs thought. And if your going to get a net for your backyard, get at least 3 mm net. i got 2 or 2.5mm and i rip it easily. in 2 days it had at least 1 hole. now i have to use string and twistie ties just to make sure the balls dont get lost in the woods

Just get a bucket of balls, go up to your local field (or if your lucky enough to have your own net) and shoot and shoot and shoot. Just shoot like crazy, I went down to our local field 3 times a week and shot 3 buckets of balls each time and I went from shooting 58 to 69 tops, about 67 constantly though.

you went up 11 MPH over how long of a period?
you people are lucky to be able to shoot, i have a net but my parents dont let me crank shots because we have a small backyard and then ive broken the fence a few times and my parents think im going to break the neighbors windows or something, there is no such thing as a "local field" around here, no place has lacrosse nets, very few schools around here have teams, and they wont let you use their nets, the parks kinda far to carry a 6X6 net and i kinda dont trust people to leave my net there

I went and shot 3 times a week for almost 2 months, then I just stopped and clocked myself about another month later and I was up to 69.

i see, i went up from 71-75 and i was injured when i did 75 so i probably could of done it a lil bit harder, this was after like a 4 month period, with almost no shooting cause i play defense and i had no place to shoot!
unlike you lucky people >.<

i am 14 and the the fastest i have recorded was 86 but that is padless and gloveless, with gear i get lows 80's. no trying to sound cocky but i think that is above average for the ages u specified.

A lot of youth lacrosse goes down in Ga... and has for a long time. Sorry, but not just the north-eastern lacrosse players are the elite now. It's actually becoming pretty well-rounded.

i've hit 88 as a fourteen year old child. no pads, no gloves. granted there always is chance of an error. but i can put balls on cage in the 80-85 mph range most of the time.

well i live in GA and im 13 but turning 14 in a few days but last time i clocked it was at 75 tops and high 60's on others. I am 5'11" and weight 140 but other kids my age just clock in the 60's.

Let's see... every year in the summer i get my shot clocked. until this year, i've shot in the range of whatever grade i was in. For example, in fifth grade i shot 57, or in the fifties. in eighth grade i shot 88, or in the eighties. I got 92 in ninth and 97 in tenth grade. unfortunately, i don't think it's going to get too much faster.

To answer your question i would say between 55 and 70 mph

mattlax16
11-20-2008, 06:10 PM
if your really good, 60-upper 70s, if your about average, 50-60. Personally, I just turned 14, i'm 5'6 125 and shoot around 68-75. I shoot around the same lefty, no less than 62. Shoot slowly, with good technique, then start to speed it up. Use a mirror to correct motions.

dalaxmandef3

I'm 13 and he highest I've ever clocked was 76. That was once I usually shoot around the 70's. I think the average at my school is 50-70. I personally don't care about my shot speed just my stick skills and my accuracy. I'd take a perfectly picked corner at a mid to high 50 over a crazy inaccurate low to mid 70.

BMSlax44

im 14 and the highest ive clocked was 83 right/ 78 left with full pads after a long session of practice. I am big for my age but the average shot speed in my school is about 5 mph diff on hands between 65-80 mph

LHSLAX17

does having more whip on your stick make u shoot faster?

greenshoelaces

does having more whip on your stick make u shoot faster?

It's all preference really. If you shoot faster with whip and still remain accurate with the shot, then I would say to use whip. DO NOT use whip on the sole reason that you shoot faster with it. Accuracy is more important when shooting on a goalie.

IMPORTANT: Your post has nothing really to do with this thread, i just decided to help you out really quick. But at least you didn't make a new one asking this question that is so frequently asked. So thanks.

I can get up to 84,I don't know on the run though.
If you're havin a problem go to the gym, swim, pushups that's what I do.
It could also be technique.

trinitymiddie22
12-16-2008, 08:19 PM
i'd say like anywhere from like mid 50's to high 70's. but i've seen kids shoot in the low 80's also and for kids saying that you average an 87 your lieing.if you can shoot that fast as a 7th/8th grader then you prob. are gonna get a full ride to hopkins.

I am 14 and last year I was clocked at 60 in full pads but i have greatly improved and i have not been clocked but i believe i can shoot in the 75-85 range on a wide open crankshot. I probly average low-mid seventies.

QUESTION: When I shoot in my backyard I can rip net on maybe half of my shots. How fast would my shot be? The last time I was clocked was at a camp my freshman year, and that was like 73mph.

BTW the net is the standard net that comes with warrior backyard goals.

trinitymiddie22
12-17-2008, 10:25 AM
prob. around like high 70's im the same way(i dont think i shoot in the 80's, i'd say like mid 70's high 60's depending on the shot.), those 2.5 or 2 mm nets just dont cut it...

Matt Danowski
12-17-2008, 11:06 AM
I swear I'm not lying! I'm serious I got clocked once at 84. I'm not one of those people on here who lies about stuff! I practice shooting a lot, go to the gym everyday in the morning for an hour and a half, swim 9 hours a week, 400 pushups a day (not altogether). It is possible for 7th/8th graders to shoot in the speed because I do,and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I am also a month short of being in 9th grade,so I'm the oldest in 8th. I never shoot that in a game though because it's not as accurate, in a game I shoot about in the 70s.
(For the record I'm not mad at you guys,I'm just saying.)

Its not always about speed either, alot of lacrosse and with the goalies moving up, its about placement as well...a well placed ball can out do a fast shot any day

all these people saying they can reach low 80's when they are 13 and 14 are mostly lying. If everybody keeps getting stronger until they are about 18 then most of you will be able to hit about 120 when your 18. half the people in the mll probably cannot reach upper 90's

I agree that it seems really far fetched that most of you are saying you are shooting lower 80s. I've played with some sick kids who have shot 92mph and it is a rocket and a half.

Most D one players and pros cant hit mid 90s. How are so many of you that are 13-14 shooting in the 80s when not all div 1 middies shot that fast?

Also its imposible for you to figure out how fast you shot by "ripping the net." It depends on where you hit the net, how thick the net is, how long have you had the net, wear and tear, weather, sun, humidity, brething on it, looking at it... my point is that there are too many factors in it to even figure that out.

I do remember seeing Kent Squire Hill ripping a hole in a brandnew game net in scrimage against St.John's fishe. The refs had no idea what happened, and didn't count the goal.... that kid cold shoot in the 90s... and it was scary as hell.

I would only believe you if you were 6'4" and an insane athlet, but chances are that at 14... you aren't

there are a few kids on our team who shoot in the lower 90s. It's fast man, thats fast enough so that all you have to do is put it where the goalie isn't (from 12 yards) and it's a goal. For a 13-14 to be shooting in the 80s, you should be on your way to being a div 1 all american.

Chances are... you aren't... only a few peope go that rout. People like to exaggerate. It's the exact same thing as the "40s time" thread.

mad69flow
12-28-2008, 04:44 PM
ask other kids that are better than you. watch some pros if you go out to a game. watch your varsity sometimes. ask them about how you could shoot better. theres all that basic stuff like put your weight into it and stuff but its just like a stick for you. its your stick its YOUR shooting style. and work on accuracy and then speed it up imo. but still its nice to have a sweet crank.

LaX 4 LiF3
12-29-2008, 10:28 PM
also at 9-14, your around 4-5'5 tall. Im short and kids that are like 5'10 are shooting in the 80's and 90's because their taller. A 14 yr old cannot shoot that hard because 1. Their shorter, it doesnt make it impossible to get great shot speed, but it affects it alot. and 2. Your not that strong when your young, even if you do work out everyday. But it will kick in around 16-18
And I know a Junoir in Highschool that shoots 80 and everyone, freshmen to seniors though that was great, so a little 7th grader beating him would be very unlikely
