Okay so I'm a new player, and today i had my second game. I usually play middie, but i have a problem. Whenever I run out of breath, i have a gag reflex and today i almost puked, but when i took out my mouthgaurd i was fine. Did anyone else have this problem? Do i just need to get used to wearing a mouthgaurd?

did you mold the mouthguard to your mouth?

Make sure your mouthguard isn't insanely large...mine came very large but I cut it down and shaped it, so now it's fine.

I cut mine so it only ever went past the 2nd to last set of molars. I have never heard of any ref doing "mouthguard" checks other then to check and see whether or not a player is wearing one or not.

I cut the front of mine to cover less of my front gums (it was uncomfortable), and a cut a little of the back so it isn't on the last tooth in the back of my mouth.
I just buy a couple of the cheapest mouthgaurds at the begining of the season. I always end up chewing on mine when Im talking or yelling.
Another thing to try would be one of those Shock Doctor Gravity's, but Im still skeptical about only have coverage on your lower teeth, Im mainly afraid of bitting my lip.

I have the gravity, and its almost like you aren't wearing a mouthpiece. It's great.

I had that problem and I got a new mouth guard and I was fine, my issue was that I had a bottom mouth guard, so I switched to a top mouth guard and I was fine.

you are allowed to cut it to a certain extent, if it keeps you from gaging then i would definitely cut it for your safety, plus mouthguards are not made primarily to protect your teeth, they are made to prevent concussions.

mouthguards are not made primarily to protect your teeth, they are made to prevent concussions.

Though mouthguard companies claim this is a benefit, there are no conclusive data to show that mouthguards definitively prevent concussions, though there are data that show they prevent dental injuries. So the primary benefit is to protect your teeth and jaw, and maybe, just maybe, they'll help with concussion prevention, but that's speculation.

well if you just cut the back down a little I doubt it will matter. It will still keep your teeth form cracking together and still protect from concussions. I've had this problem too and I just cut it a little.

i cut my mouth peices just make sure you fit it first. because they are much easier to cut that way. but start out with small cuts.
also a tip for when boiling your mouth piece to make them taste good(i know never been done before ahaha) put some drops of vanilla flavoring in the boiling water
