What are the basics in shooting underhand while keeping it fast and on target too?

Put your hands in the normal position.

Turn your stick upside down.

Take a step and shoot.

The shooting motion should be almost like a golf swing. Make it feel natural.

Here's what I did to start shooting underhand. I began playing wall ball underhanded. It gets you used to the motion a lot faster than shooting, and then when you go to practice the shooting, it doesn't feel uncomfortable, and you don't get so frustrated.

shoot overhand

Listen to this guy, he's the real deal. I used to try sidearming all of the time, and while I gained a little bit of power, the accuracy was terrible, especially with a pole. Now I get every shot on net, even f it is a little slower, and that brings up your chances right there.

shoot overhand

He's right practice overhand because thats what will be your most efficient shot come game time, it is more accurate and harder to check...but i will say at times you will have to adopt to your environment, if you've got a step on your man off a split or what have you, rip it sidearm if you feel thats your best bet...and if the ball is low and behind ya, rip it low to high... every shot has it's place but i think it's safe to say overhand or 3/4 is the most efficient

I have always been a person to believe you should be good at everything, so I would practice shooting overhand, sidearm and underhand while also practicing shooting high to low, and low to high. Yes I do agree that you should focus more on shooting overhand especially if you are new to the game. Overhand is the most common, most accurate and most trustworthy shot.

if you've got a step on your man off a split or what have you, rip it sidearm if you feel thats your best bet.
No offense Lefty but you should try not to (edit: saying never is too harsh) shoot sidearm or underhand while on the run. It is a very risky shot, you most likely will miss (or give the goalie an easy save) and the way you would have to adjust your body would greatly slow your shot down which is too costly since shooting overhand on the run would gain shot speed due to your momentum.
Now unless you meant you have a step on your opponent and take a time and room (crank shot) than yes that is the appropriate and really the only good safe time to take a underhand/sidearm shot.

Like with any sports and lacrosse, practice is key it is like your best friend. Hit the wall daily and find something to shoot at (if you search online you can find some nice but inexpensive lacrosse goals) and practice hard and often. That is the only way you will get better, and more confident in your playing ability.

overhand you have good accuracy left to right, but side arm you have good accuracy up and down not left to right. So the only times i shoot under hand are if i arc the shot to the shelf or if i fake high then shoot low. Shooting overhand is alot better in my opinion. But i think its important to b good at both. So just practice both equally because you will take more overhand shot in a game then you do underhand.

No i mean on the run, not time and room, if your hands have space, theres nothing wrong with a little Canadian rip on the run...I do it all the time... :) and i think our definitions of sidearm is different...i mean just anything between overhand and low to high....not neccesary straight side arm...that wouldn't make much sense on the run

and you missing my point i was trying to tell the guy to have a repertoire of shots because ya never know when you will need them
