Is she any good?

Never played before. She threw around with me, but she isn't... uh... how you say.

She isn't an Amy Appelt. Tall, Skinny... I could see her in goal, but not on the field.

She could be molded to whatever but i'm thinking Defense, or Forward.

You just want someone to shoot on. Tall and skinny, is she a good runner? Midfield?

Asthma. She can't sprint at all (her words). Maybe this should be in the womens forum.... I'm splitting it there.

Hmm a lot of the goalies are what would you call it, bulky? They have muscle or atleast around here they do. I am not discouraging it, just pointing something out since you said she was skinny, but I guess you could be skinny and muscular? I see a lot of tall people playing mid though. About asthma, does she run alot? If she doesn't start her. After a while, her asthma will slowly dwindle away, I have seen this happen to a lot of people. But I am thinking I would want her to play mid. Her height is a sure advantage for both attack and defense.

Well, look at the sucessful college goalies. short and/or tall but pretty skinny.

Its only in high school do i see the more muscular girls play goalie because they think they can't play anything else.

to others: do you think enjoilax's sister would be able to be a good middie? after all, she did say she wasn't good at running.. i was thinking more of defense.

Your goalie should be the most atheletic person on the team. They need to have a good reflexes and be able to think quickly. To many coaches put the big girl in net because they don't know what to do with them. A lot of top goalies are maybe 5'6" at best.

We thought that becuase being tall would be an advantage on both sides of the field.

What are you reffering to as big? Like tall big or um fluffy big? Looks like you saying tall, just beuase you mentioned height right after that. I wouldn't mine a tall goalie, but like you said, you have to be quick and mentally tough. But also, you have to be strong, you have to clear it a long ways, or at least I do, and to get quick, you usually work out, making you stronger.

p.s., in the end it will be her choice, so see if you have spare equiptment somewhere and let her mess around at being goalie and the other positions. The last thing you want happening to her is she'll commit to it and then hate it.

Well okay shes like 5'8" or so. Thats pretty tall for a Frosh i think.

Hmm, what else is she good at? You said she has asthma, but is she outgoing, is she not afraid of the ball, or does she enjoy shooting? If she likes shooting and scoring, she will never be able to score, so keep that in mind too. She might be blamed for close games so she has to be mentally strong. Sorry if I am repeating my self, I just type everything that comes to my head, like now lol. Umm, does she like to be different, being goalie is almost a whole different game, she is the last person to either stop the ball or let the ball go in, and first one to send it the other way.. But being goalie is mad fun, you are able to piss off the other team and you can plow people over lol, okay not really but if you do it doesn't hurt you..... Oh yeah, does she play any sports?

Lacrosse and "swimming" swimming in quotes because shes not on a team.

I would say she should try her hand at defense. Tall girls are loved all over the field but in my experience especially down low ala Tori Wellington style.

I will quote myself as I spoke to your brother... "ROFLMAOOMGWTFD00D!...minienjoilax hahahaha".

Um. Anyways tips for tryout days... Start practicing now assuming your trying out this year. You will need to get accustomed to balls flying at you and yu will need to be able to not flinch or lock up. Theres a really nice goalie thread floating around somewhere.

Short version: She didn't make the team.

Long version: the coach was a moron and kind of haphazardly chose who made the team or not.
Then again, hes a gym teacher so maybe i shouldn't expect much of him.

hey guys, yeah i didnt make it but thats d (the coach) is gonna see more of me cause im still trying out next year. and eh my brother was wrong, hes not a gym coach, hes a special ed teacher. he cut most freshman, except he took 4 of em. 1 showed up with a guys stick because she didnt know the difference. and she didnt mold the mouthguard to her teeth, she just brought the mouthguard in the box she bought it in. two just didnt bring their sticks, ball or mouth guards all 4 days of tryouts. the other one was pretty good i have to admit, she played JV basketball this year and was really fit and super tall. pretty intimidating when shes running at you. but the weird thing is none of em ever picked up sticks. lately tho, we had a referendum and girls lax was gonna be the 1st to be cut if it didnt pass but luckily it passed and we're keeping it :)
