I own both (brother technically has the ps2, i have the xbox, but we share). My nod goes to the xbox.

Game wise, PS2 used to have a much better quality of games. However, nearly every game available now is for every console, so thats irrelevant. Xbox has a much more stable online system, graphics are better, no pesky memory cards, etc. The only complaint ppl can have about xbox is that its heavy and the controllers are big...and to me, thats a really dumb excuse.

Halo 2, need i say more?

The xbox is clearly superior, better online play, and the controler is designed specificly for FPS, and driving games the two types of games i play.

I second that. Halo/Halo 2 were the reasons my mom got me an xbox over ps2 (for Christmas), simply because she had heard how sweet it is. Now I feel sweet for talking about how cool video games are.

xbox all the way...had it since it came it in 2002 and its GREAT!!! The graphics on most of the games are amazing!!! the dolby digital sound on most of the recent games creates a whole new way of playing...XBOX RULES

BUT ps2 does have some better games!!

gamecube!!!
lol...outside of the few nintendo only games (mario, zelda, etc.), there is nothing for gamecube. How can they not have online capabilities yet? And every version of their games are awful (see any EA sports game and the difference is awful). Plus, graphically it's weak.

And for all xbox fans-don't say xbox is better just because of halo. It's only one game.

XboX is the best, we have both in my apartment and I think xbox has better graphics. The only thing I like about Gamecube is the Zelda series

03-01-2005, 07:32 PM
Obviously there are multiple reasons why xbox is so great, but we all know that Halo is, in itself, reason enough. And then Bungie made Halo 2; and man rejoiced.

Gamecube. Zelda, sweet, Resident Evil(s), sweet, Gamecube, sucks. The controllers are crazy, the buttons break easily, and Nintendo didn't even follow the unwritten rule: every new system doubles the graphics capabilities of its predecessor. Playstation (32bit), Nintendo 64(bit), Dreamcast (128bit), PS2 (256bit), Xbox (512bit), and then Game Cube (394bit). *Ok, I looked into this a little more and realized that the specs aren't so simple, and someone is probably going to ream me for knowing nothing about video game consoles, but I don't really care*. Obviously the people at nintendo misjudged and thought that they could get away with inferior technology. Sorry guys.

Def. ps2...

Gran Turismo 4. The Final Fantasy Series. All very popular, very good games.

For me 1st person shooters get boring after you play them awhile...it just gets....repetitive. Plus if I want to play a truly great 1st person shooter (dont really like halo series) then I go PC. Farcry, Unreal, doom, etc.

ok if HALO 2 isnt enough, how about.. Halo 1, yeah your done bashing Xbox, halo and halo 2 mop the floor with all other systems.. but Project gothem racing, Tom clancys Rainbow six three: Black arrow, Ghost Recon, and Counter strike, great games. Counter strike 2 is going to be uber sweet aswell.

Yes Ps2 has Final Fantasy, and Grand Tarismo 4 *sp* both are great, my bro just got GT4, which i bought for him 2 years ago.. and final fantasy is awsome by i preffer more fast paced games, not saying i dont want GT4, but.. and the guy who makes Final Fantasy has just signed a deal hes going to be making games for Xbox now.

First off, i never said anything about xbox. I just said i didnt like the halo series.

But since you mention it,

halo 1 was originally slated to release for the PC. then xbox wouldnt have had its precious "halo"

If it werent for halo xbox would be where its at right now. Most of the games you listed are for the PC as well, so it wouldnt make an infuence in peoples decision making. the holiday season it first came out was hard on the xbox simply because of the controller design.

how'd your bro get gt4 2 years ago?

That's just cause Microsoft makes comps too. True XBox wouldn't be where it is today without Halo, but it would still be very popular. Come to think of it, Microsoft wouldnt be very popular without making Halo.

I'm going to say ps2 and I have both. Here's why: SOCOM 2 online, *******. Yea, that's right. Halo 2 is the same f'in thing as Halo 1. Double guns was the only change, and that didn't impress me. Now of course it's an awesome game and all, but playing it online is just annoying. People eat, drink, sleep, breath and crap Halo. It's all they do, and then they turn into godlike players and you cant beat them. Bah. My little brother loves his X-BOX though. And did I mention GTA 4? Yea, that's right.

Another vote for gamecube :bartmoon:

Personally, I think its the best due to its 4 player capability. The only games I play on my own are Madden and NHL from EA sports (which are the same as the XBOX and PS2 versions, whoever said they wernt), I really just use it for when I've got my mates round and you have a few drinks and play some Monkey Ball, Mario Kart, Smash Brothers or NHL - its great.

The PS2 cannot do 4 player out of the box, and the XBOX has games that are far to single player orientated cos its a PC (although a lot are v. good)

Also I think that the XBOX has a much harder controller for some people to use (esp. people wit smaller hands) compared to the gamecube which may seem to have odd placed buttons but is actually really intuitive. The PS2 has the worst controller, too small, really uncomfortable cos its all straight lines and shoddy d-pad.

Internet wise, well my console just isnt for that, if I want to take on a load of Americans i'll get on my PC but console gaming just feels right with a load of people crowded round the TV.

03-02-2005, 12:12 PM
XBOX is definately better than PS2. Overall anyway. However, I really like XBOX for racing games because of the controller. XBOX does have better graphics so it makes it better to play especially when it is on a big T.V. but for sports games and action games I would have to say that they are almost equal but my edge goes to XBOX for the controller. But nowadays I would have to say dont waste money on a PS2 when you can get an XBOX, only downfall for XBOX is unlike PS2 you cant play DVD's with out a remote. By the way March Madness is a great game. and Wake Forest is going to win the Tournament

I'd say Xbox, but I'd have to have the smaller Japanese style controllers. Of course, I love halo, but I believe overall Xbox is the best all around system.

Gamecube is nice too, but it just doesn't have as much.

03-02-2005, 04:51 PM
xbox is best. ps2 is next, but it's not quite as good. i think the ff series is way overrated. go to www.flashplayer.com and go to the "decline of video gaming" (the original, not the sequel until you've seen the original). and gamecube has almost all kiddie games. plus the fact that it can't play dvd's and the fact that it can't go online.

GTA was also slated to come out for xbox but PS2 wouldn't let its precious series go to xbox, so instead didnt let it come out until right before San Andreas was coming out (so GTA 3 and Vice City would be useless to xbox).

Project Gotham is an xbox exclusive, and although the Tom Clancy series has similar versions to PC, they are not the same as their PC counterparts. Although they don't carry the same number of name brand series, there are still many quality games.

Nifty Gaming Console Facts
•The Sega Dreamcast was the first console to implement online play over a phone line, called Sega Net.
•The Microsoft XBox is the first video game system to completely support HDTV.
•Popular Science recognized the Sega Dreamcast as one of the most important and innovative products of 1999.
•The Magnavox Odyssey, released in 1972, contained 40 transistors and no microprocessor. The new Pentium 4 microprocessor contains 42 million transistors on the chip itself!
•The PlayStation 2 is the first system to have graphics capability better than that of the leading-edge personal computer at the time of its release.
•The Nintendo N64 marked the first time that computer graphics workstation manufacturer Silicon Graphics Inc. (SGI) developed game hardware technology.
•While the original Atari Football game was first created in 1973, it wasn't released until 1978. It was delayed because the game couldn't scroll the screen -- players couldn't move beyond the area shown on the monitor. When the game was finally released, it became the first game to utilize scrolling, a key part of many games today.
•The Atari Pong video game console was the No. 1 selling item for the holiday season in 1975. Go Pong!
•The first console to have games available in the form of add-on cartridges was the Fairchild Channel F console, introduced in August 1976.
•The PlayStation 2 is the first video game system to use DVD technology.
•On the original Magnavox Odyssey, players had to keep score themselves because the machine couldn't. Bah ha!
•The Nintendo GameCube's proprietary disc can hold 1.5 gigabytes of data -- 190 times more than what an N64 game cartridge can hold. Ouch!
•On the market from 1991 till 2004, the SNK NeoGeo AES has tied the Atari 2600 (1977-1990) as the longest supported gaming console in history. CrAZy eh?
•The Sega Genesis featured a version of the same Motorola processor that powered the original Apple Macintosh computer
•Mattel's Intellivison system, introduced in 1980, featured an add-on called "PlayCable," which delivered games by cable TV.
•Nintendo's Game Boy is the most successful game system ever, with more than 100 million units sold worldwide.
•The word atari comes from the ancient Japanese game of Go and means "you are about to be engulfed." Technically, it is the word used by a player to inform his opponent that he is about to lose, similar to "check" in chess.
•In the 1980s, a service called Gameline allowed users to download games to the Atari 2600 over regular phone lines. It was not a success, but did form part of the foundation for America Online.
•The first color portable video game system was the Atari Lynx, introduced in 1989 and priced at $149. Just get an XBox instead. :naughty:
•Introduced in 1993, the 3DO was the first video game system to be based entirely on CD technology.
•The Sony PlayStation was originally intended as a CD add-on to the Super Nintendo. When licensing problems and other issues arose, Sony decided to develop the PlayStation as a machine of its own.

Well, the ability to save games always caught my eye. No more dirty discs or no reads. You can also store a lotto music and pics and stuff. Plus you can get modded games. My friends have a couple versions of modded Halo. Can't remember what they're called tho, but it's pretty fun. I also like how you can change the look of your menus and stuff. You can also store PS2, Gamecube, and any other gaming console games on it. The same friends I was talking about before have NES, SNES, Sega, etc. It's pretty nifty.
