iPod batteries are notorious for sucking so that really is your problem and not Apple's.

I agree. The only reason I think mine is bad is cause I had to get it used cause we can't afford a new one. The bad thing is that if you need to get a new battery, they are EXTREMELY expensive.

I believe the newer ones are supposed to be much more durable and longer lasting. Thank goodness...

i think that your problem with the songs being deleted is that your ipod is set by default to update to match your library on itunes until you change that setting..to fix that do this:
with your ipod connected and itunes open, left click the ipod on the far left menu so that it's highlighted, then click on the "ipod options" button on the bottom right of itunes (a little ipod icon), a window should pop up with options, then there's an optional to "manually manage songs and playlists", click it then just click ok and your ipod's been set to manually config. ur songs...now, when you plug your ipod in, itunes won't delete anything and will keep what you have
to put new songs onto your ipod, just highlight the songs you want to transfer from your library and click and drag them to your ipod on the far left menu, then a bar on the top (where the song ticker normally is) that says something like "updating ipod" will show up and just wait till it's complete..
if you want to watch a video on it, go here:

as for the battery thing, mine does it too, ipod batteries just suck, as everyone else has said..
if you have any other questions or don't get what i said, i'm always on AIM after practice all night (yea, i got no life outside school and lax), so talk to me, my screen name's Viperslax24

1. Replace the battery. If your Warranty is still good then i would go through Apple, or go to a local apple store. I would go to the apple store though. If not you can get a new one for anywhere from 30$-70$ which you'll have to replace it yourself, but as long as you are careful and follow the instructions you shall be fine.
2. Set your iPod to manual sync
3. iPodlounge.com <--- They can help you out much much better than anyone here.

i major battery waste is the backlight. turn in off to save more battery. there are books that you can rent from the library ( i got Everything You Need to Know About Your Ipod) that go into detail about batteries and everything about an ipod

i also ahve a question, ok i was thinking about getting a ipod. since the 30 gb is only 50 more than the 20 and its color i thought i would get that. But heres the problem, ifound an old 40 gb photo ipod for the same price as the 30 gb on buy.com. I don't know which to get. any suggestions/comments would be helpful thanks

All iPod batteries die within a year at the most. I've had my 2nd generation iPod since right when they were introduced and I still get almost complete charge time. Given, this is less than the newer models, but I completely dissagree that the iPod's battery only lasts "a year at most." Moving on, I would recommend buying an aftermarket battery. I will try to find a link, but they're cheaper than the apple battery and hold a charge longer.

with your battery, every month or so do this...
1. fully waste out your entire battery, so you can't turn it on.
2. charge all the way full
3. turn on ipod
4. turn off soundcheck and any equalizers
5. set songs to shuffle and turn off backlight
6. leave your ipod on the entire day until it fully runs out until you can't turn it on, like how it started out
7. fully charge it all the way
8. the battery capacity should be increased
this is called charging memory or something if i'm right, it has to do with the kind of battery it is. If you only use the battery halfway till charging, the battery "remembers" and so the capacity gets cut in half because you aren't using all of the battery. So once in a while waste it all out so you can get full capacity.
I did this, my battery lasted only 7 hours, now it lasts about 11 1/2

you should put a timer on your your backlight and do the battery thing that should help you to make it last longer it works for me
