Hey has anyone seen or heard anything about a new DeBeer stick that is supposed to be coming out sometime soon? It's supposed to be pretty awesome, and maybe not even allowed in international play. I haven't seen it yet, just had some fellow laxers telling me about it. Anyone know anything? Let us know!!!

I have no idea what they are called, the person that told me about them did not know. He was just telling me that they are awesome sticks, especially for an attacker. He was telling me that they had a sick whip, and the ball flew so hard out of the stick, and it was accuarte. I was just wondering if anyone knew what they were like, or if there are any on the market yet.

Oh, I'm smart like that.
Sorry, I did not realise this was a post in the women's forum. The two new DeBeer women's heads coming out are the Impulse and the Response. The Response is a new beginner/intermediate head and the Impulse is their new advanced head that meats international playing standards.
You can find information that is more detailed at http://www.debeerlacrosse.com

ok I just looked at DeBeer's website...the stick looks pretty tight. It's expensive though. We will see...maybe I will wait until someone else gets it, or go and try it out at Sports Her Way. On DeBeer's website it says that the side wall is the smallest it can be, and the pocket is good for holding the ball at the top (the best place to keep it before shooting) so it might be a good investment. Well I still have a few months before season...so we will see. Thanks for the info chicks!!!
**Are they just models of the mens sticks revamped?**

Hmm, I know someone else had that same problem. Try going again now, it might jus have been you went before they put it up. Either that or try refreshing when you go to the main website. It should be a completly new layout design and list their new products.
I think that getting a good stick is a good investment. I bought an Apex a few years ago and it was the best investment I could have done. Now I'm looking for a new one. Every few years it is just worth it to stay up wih technology. Some girls get the newest stick every year but I find it best to play with it for a little while. Thats when you really become attached and comfortable with your stick.

tried it again and no such luck.... they havent changed their website from www.debeerlacrosse.com, have they?

No. That is the right URL.
That is really weird that it does not work for you...I have another idea.
Go to http://www.e-lacrosse.com and wait for it to load. On the right in the colum at the top there should be an image that says GAIT in red letters. Click on that and it will take you to the DeBeer website. It should have the new one if you do it that way because thats how I first saw it. If it doesnt work I don't know what to say...

ha, im sending it in tonight..... I had problems getting time to review it since the temp outside has been 20 degrees for the past, hmmm, week or so. Then moving back to college was a big dent in review time.... so hopefully I can get it finished tonight and send it in to Ben

It's done girls.... check it out : www.laxnation.com
I'm surprised you liked the Impulse so much because it's not that different from the Tempest (which you've stated you hate). The only significant difference between them is how the scoop on the Impulse comes above the level of the shaft, where as the Tempest scoop lies below the level of the shaft. A more forward leaning scoop tends to create more whip, which you don't seem to care for.
How much time did you spend testing the Tempest? I don't understand how you can have such polar opposite opinions on two sticks that are so similar. Does anyone else on your team use one and like it? The Tempest can't be all bad considering it's fairly popular among college varsity players (especially with the Lady Terps). It's not a dog like say... the Diva, Paragon, or JA7.

I've played with many of my friends Tempests. Although I've never owned one, I have had decent playing time with it. As a defender I feel that the stick itself is too easy for a defender to check. Theres no security and the ball falls out even after a light check. While I myself wouldn't mind all attackers playing with that stick (it makes my job a whole lot easier), it wouldn't be right to reccomend it. It also has a completely different feel than the Apex. When throwing with the Tempest it felt awkward, like I had to adjust TOO much to the new stick. Yes., i know all sticks aren't supposed to be comfortable right off the bat, but the Tempest was just too uncomforatble and the throwing was horrible with it. While reviewing this stick, I let a girl who plays on UVA's team try it out and we swapped sticks: my Impulse for her Tempest. What a HUGE difference. She didn't want to give me back the Impulse and I couldn't wait to give the Tempest back to her. The Impulse is just an all around better stick, and this is coming from not just me, but at least 3 other girls who have switched. Before, the Tempest was the most elite deBeer stick, so you really had no other option besides that or the Apex. Now, the Impulse has taken all the problems of the Tempest and corrected them. I don't hate the Tempest, I just think that this stick takes it to the next level.
I guess the part of your review I'm most puzzled by is when you say the 'Tempest is easy to check' while the Impulse is not. They are so close in shape. The Impulse scoop comes forward a little more and that's about it. Changes to the sidewall were cosmetic, although it might be a tad stiffer since there's more plastic. But the sidewall height is the same. The shape of the face is identical. Impulse isn't narrower, more pinched or anything like that. So I find it odd that the Impulse cradles so much better.
A lot of girls I find who don't like the Tempest dislike it because they have their pockets set up incorrectly. The low walls on Tempest and Impulse allow you to have more of a pocket than ever before on a girls stick. If you have the pocket too shallow, that defeats the purpose of the head. I thought maybe you tried a Tempest that was poorly set up, but you say you've used a few that were broken in no less. Do you like the Impulse enough to convert to it from the Apex this season?

Have you actually played with an Impulse yet? The feel is different, and although you're right about the cosmetic changes being minimal, in the time I've played with both sticks and played defense on girls with both sticks, the Tempest tends to be easier for one to check. I don't have all the answers and I don't know the exact physics behind it, but the Tempest, in the 2 years it has been out, has made it easier as a defender to check. The Impulse, in the few times I've marked girls who have it and have been marked by other players, has had a better track record.
And about the pocket, I highly doubt someone who plays for UVA (who I borrowed one from) would have their stick set up wrong. Also, the other girls I have borrowed their stick to try hadn't restrung their stick since they received it from the store they purchased it from. Unless the store is stringing it wrong, then that's not the answer. Also, I am notorious for having a big pocket on my stick, so that's not an issue.
Hands down I will be converting from the Apex. #1, because the Impulse was free, #2 because it's time I move up from the Apex (I've been using it since freshman year in college) and I won't buy the Tempest. #3 it's a sturdier stick, which is important for defeenders. Just yesterday a girl on my team broke her Apex, making it the 3rd time it's happened on my team in a year.
I haven't messed around with an Impulse outside of a store. I don't know anyone who has one yet, and I don't have an extra $100 to drop on one.
I've used the Apex and Tempest extensively and like both a lot. Apex is definately the best all-around stick in the game. Tempest has its virtues, but it is not for everyone. I hate seeing beginners and novices buying the Tempest because they see all the Md girls using it. It's not flimsy, but its lightness can sometimes be a detraction. It's not the best checking stick, and it can get worn out pretty quickly on draws.
When I inspected the Impulse, I thought it was so similar to Tempest, that I didn't think it made much difference to get one or the other. But based on your glowing reviews, I am second guessing myself. I thought Impulse was only slightly heavier and stiffer than Tempest. I had reservations recommending it to primarily defensive players, but you're a D-wing, and you do say it's sturdy enough for your tastes. When you say, "it's a sturdier stick," do you mean it's sturdier than Apex, Tempest or both?

I agree with you 100% about the kids buying the stick when they have little to no experience. I coached one of the camps this summer for my college and there were these little girls who had never played before running around with a better stick than most of the girls on my team had!! It drove me nuts, because my coach would have killed me if I had started with an advanced stick.
I'm actually Line D... I played D wing in high school, but now I'm in the back, so I do significantly more defense than offense. It's a great checking stick actually. This may sound weird, but the design of the scoop actually helps in this area. b/c its up a little farther than the stick itself, it actually gives you that extra inch with which you can check. It's great.
It is sturdier than both, I think. Ive seen the Apex break on 3 seperate occasions from simple checking. The Tempest I think the composition is better, but I haven't seen one of those break... yet

haha actually although the response is considered a beginners stick i think that it would be a great stick. I'm stringing one now for some young chick and it looks great to me.
Better than some of that other crap that is out there (surge) lol
does rubber make a difference?

yeah, the difference is in price..... its not worth it on the surge.... the tenacity however..... different story

I LOVE my tenacity. the rubber rails DO make a difference.
keep us posted on the REsponse? I want to see how that plays, I want a fun stick to mess around with, dye and string, just to play with.
