You can go to newegg (www.newegg.com), buy parts and assemble one for probably much better quality for the money than you would get buying a factory one.

if hes looking for a cheap computer, then i doubt he knows how to build one.
I always believe that building your own computer (ie calculating and doing each spec piece by piece to get what you want) is always a better choice, but definitely is much more expensive. Pre-built computers are much cheaper, but aren't going to have the best specs in every category.
If you want raw specs in your computer for a very cheap price, then look at an E-machine. But IMO, they're all cheap pieces of crap.

I know how to fix and build computers. I also have usually bought individual parts. But I have $500 to spend and my computer motherboard and hardrive are totally f*****. My friends little brother took a hammer to the computer. Right now I'm using an old computer that only had windows 95 and I want to get a new one asap.

Mini Mac? I think thats a good choice (at least for now)
I mean... You get what you pay for and there isn't that much out there that sub 500$ even in terms of part, especially if the mobo and HD are busted.

But if you're a PC man and don't mind putting it together, outpost.com and newegg and zipzoomfly.com all are good online places. If you have a Fry's near you, they tend to have good deals as well.
Otherwise, Dell often get really cheap with rebates and also usually come with an operating system too, which would be another $100 if you put your own computer together and are a windows guy.

Dell is selling a very nice computer with a 15" lcd monitor for $399... I would buy it if i didn't buy a computer last year...

I sawthe offer which has the 15" lcd monitor on a Dell catalogue, but i believe it was simply replacing the crt(big) monitor from the"entry level" Dell Dimension Desktop (Which I must say is very good) for the 15" lcd. Just call up Dell and tell them you saw an offer for a Dell DImension desktop with a 15" lcd and they'll tell you the offer.
