How much would a woodie shaft cost, and where can I get one? I've never really seen one on a lacrosse store online before.

You can get a solid hickory for around $30 on eBay.

Ahh waste of money. Give me 20 min and I'll post pics of my 4 dollar hickory that I made. (not that old one I had that was round, this one is octagonal)

Its hard to tell in these pictures but it has the traditional octagonal grip. Its nice and took 5 minutes to make (tipped the blade on a table saw and just passed it through 4 times pretty much.)

is it heavy ??

Well it is solid hickory, so it is not like playing with a db803, but unless you have no muscle (noodle arm) it should only make your shots and checks more powerful. Also the added weight seems to make it harder for people to knock the ball out of your stick. That could also be that wood kind of absorbs the blow though.

I don't see how it would make your shots more powerful.

Its heavier, so it exerts more force.

momentum is mass times the square of velocity (so head speed matters much more for shot speed).
You won't be able to whip a wood shaft around as fast as a lightweight one, so I'm going to say no to increased shot speed.
Wood does have other advantages though (absorbs checks better, and hurts more when you're doing the checking). If you like the feel of wood, it can be a winner.
You can get hickory or ash shafts in a lot of places. I have a Brine one that I paid about $25 CDN for. Try probosslacrosse.com to order, they had STX hickories for under $30 last time I looked.

I play with a woodie I bought mine from ChillyStick for like 20 bucks. Its not hickory but its some kind of wood that is highly durable and I have broken other people's titanium shafts against it. Just do a search for ChillyStick and get one there I was impressed.

I doubt it has to do with the weight of the stick, more the amount of flex. I've clocked my shot with both my db803 and the hickory and there was a difference of about 2 mph (hickory was a tiny bit faster, but it was probably just a coincidence). And as for checks, you dont have to throw this stick around like mad because it is so effective when you hit their hand/shaft because of the weight.

I've got a hickory one and I really like it. It weighs about 400 grams, so it's heavier than an alloy but not that much. If you play with it for 5 minutes you stop noticing the weight. And you can hit really hard with it :-)

that doesn't mean anything.... you cant prove that your shot went faster because of the flex...ive had two mile anhour differences in my shot, with the same stick, just sometimes you dont gets as much hip rotation or your wrist snap isnt at the right time...

Funny how I even said in my post that the increase was probably just a coincidence. My point was it doesnt affect you in a bad way.
