Well, they do sell goalie size leathers, so i think it probably is, but maybe thats jsut for like a Mesh-X goalie pocket or soemthing.

I have seen it before. Although it does look good, the leathers may deform from merely catching a hard pass or stopping a shot. I tried it out on a deBeer Web and found that you would have to pound in the pocket for a good week to get a good pocket.

With the plastic heads, outside of the deBeer Web or Web Pro and the old Brine Shutout, it would be very difficult to string a traditional pocket because of the lack of holes needed for the leathers at the throat.

I do use a double traditional pocket in my Mohawk wood goal stick with little difficulty.

it would also take several hours to make all those diamonds

and wouldnt the diamonds like open up and the ball would possibly just go right through?

Some goalies used traditional in the 70's, when the goalie head was about 1/3 as big as it is now. Traditional is good for a mid/attack sharpshooter. It will not be better for catching than hard mesh, and it will not be good at all in poor weather. The best to use is monster or hard mesh. With monster, you can develop a ridiculous channel that the ball stays in, like Tillman Johnson and Jay Pfeiffer use(d) in college.

Mark at Stylin' Strings has a completely traditional goalie head of his own.

The space commander was the rock-it pocket for a goalie stick, but they stopped selling it.

It took me between 5 and 8 hours on my wood goal sticks.

Off-topic, but Stonewall, how does that channeling string work on your nemesis? Does it have any cons?

the first pocket was traditional. for goalie, d, and attack heads. until they had mesh that was the only option. but traditional in a goalie stick is the dumbest choice to make.

I'm currently stringing a traditional Goalie head and as soon as I'm done I'll post it.

I feel that it limits ball movement in the pocket. I hate it when the ball hits the sidewalls when cradling.

Also, the channeling helps me in throwing the ball accurate. I personally like to throw darts down the field with the Nemesis.

On what goalie head are you stringing a traditional pocket in? IMO, the deBeer Web and Web Pro are best for it.

By popular demand...
Here's an old Brine Shutout strung w/ a traditional pocket. I don't see anything in the current modern goalie heads that would prevent a trad pocket from being strung in them. If you want to, knock yourself out.

but for actual goalies the pocket would deform if it got hit with a hard fast shot.
