the nll all star game attracted 879,000 viewers. i think that the number is pretty strong considering there was absolutly no promotion for the game at all and that it was played on a saturday afternoon.

It is very strong. Compare that to past lax ratings....

That's pretty good considering. I have a feeling the MLL and NCAA Championships will do even better this year!

Basic business sense. Why let someone place a commercial to take your viewers away?
That would be like walking into Lacrosse Unlimited and seeing an advertisement for TexLax on the wall.

879k is great...I expect the championship game to be over 1 Million

Lets say you retain about 500k of those viewers. Then, through proper promotion, and considering those who wanted to watch, and couldn't, coupled with the fact that the next televised game is for all the cheese...I'd have to second that guess, Steggy.

there is going to have to be some kind of advertising for the nll championship. I don't know about you, but I felt that most of the all star game was boring.

Are you INSANE? That was a good game. Even guys who don't follow lacrosse that watched the game said it was a great game. A back and forth battle going into OT with goalies making crazy saves wasn't exciting? Granted there were too many BTB passes and not enough hits, but the overall pace of the game was up there and fun to watch.

did you even watch the game? or are you just trying to pretend like you're a badass by taking the unpopular opinion? Cause no one could call that game boring.

I liked the game, as I have it on tape. But I didn't like all of the behind the back passing, and the lack of intesity. It was far from a "real" NLL game. Still loved it though.

i watched it for about fifteen minutes ive been to a couple of college games and i thought no offense that it was pretty boring too as for the goalies i thought theyd be like hockey but in hockey its more exciting watching the goalies in box lax they look like jello and just kind of blob around no offense i just thought that the out door games were better

The reason why there was little or no talk of the upcoming game, is because they decided to air it at the last minute. Once the NHL cancelled its season, the game was 100% on. Before that it was about 30%.

thats not true, the deal was signed before the season was cancelled and in the contract it stated that the game would air no matter what.

Actually the game was going to be aired no matter what, but on taped delay. get the facts

Not a last minute decision.
The deal was being finalized way back in December around the holiday time. Even if you want to argue that it wasn't announced until 1/30. Although from all my sources, it was virtually done by christmas to get it aired.
Anyway 1/30 to 2/26 is 5 weeks to have plugged it a little more than they did. I can understand the not pushing it too much because why waste air time (commercial time...$$) on an unproven sport, but I would have thought a little more support would have been in order.

How about this, can't we agree to disagree.. and can't we agree that we both don't really know because we aren't tv executives. All i know is what several NLL players have told me.. two knighthawks and one storm member. you and i both know that the evidence we have is hearsay.
let's drop it..
it was a great thing for lacrosse and we are spoiling it by arguing about it.
thanks

I'll agree to disagree to keep the topic trolling. All I am going to reply is that league office sources are more relieable than players.
Back on topic. As far as getting the number up to over 1 Mill, it is very possible. With the strong results from the AS game, and with the increased lead time between now and the game, there is ample time to get the word out there for the championship.
Granted they can not throw commercials up there on prime time, but if they can spread the word through the sports radio shows, and put up some commercials during some weak time slots as the date comes closer. Makes no sense to do it now. Maybe 2 weeks before the championship we will see a blaze of info everywhere (I can dream). Just splice together a bunch of clips from the AS game.

The reason there was no advertising for the All-Star game was because the NLL had paid NBC to air the game (Believe it was 500 000$, not sure) to get more exposier on national television. The plan was that getting the game on TV would get more people seeing the game, therefore they would make up 500 000$ on ticket revenues from people who didn't know about lacrosse before it aired.
NBC didn't want to waste money on an unproven sport and on something they were already making money off of in the first place.
