my friend and i are contemplating buying a db803 d-pole and then cutting it down to make two shafts. the d-pole is 60 inches and the a/m shaft is 30 inches so it seems like it would work. it would only cost us about $35 each this way. has anybody done this before, does it work, and if so what are the pros/cons of doing it?

It works, the shaft will be super slightly heavier as the d poles are made thicker. Theres really no downside other than you void the warrenty. Just take a hack saw to it.

lots of guys I've played with have salvaged broken d shafts for short sticks. The best way to go about this is to spend a few extra bucks and have your local hardware store make the cut (this is the biggest risk in doing this because it's easy to not measure correctly or not cut evenly) then all you need is a self tapping screw if you want to drill a hole on the bottom half. Essentially the pro is you are saving money, just so long as you cut the shaft in half evenly.

What you need to make sure of is that the short stick will be long enough after the cut. Most short sticks are sold as 31", not 30". That inch MIGHT matter since shorties have to be between 40" and 42". Check the length of your head, positioning of the hole, etc before doing it so you don't end up with 2 shorties you can't use. I broke a klyte longpole in the fall and cut it down to a shortie which I love using.

I was actually thinking of doing that but then I looked at the chart

http://www.lacrossemonkey.com/dedbtiendela.html

and the attack weight is 5.0 oz and the dpole weight is 13.5

wow...i thanks for that info. i didn't really think it was a good idea before and this has just made my decision easier. i'd rather have the warranty, not have to worry about messing up the cutting, and have the lightest possible stick. also this is sorta silly, but it's nice to not have the paint job half cut off at the top.

Yeah, that extra 1.75 oz. is going to make a big difference.
