About a day or so ago (sorry I didnt get this up here sooner), the Arizona team announced their name. They went with Arizona Sting. Rumor has it that the reason why it took so long was a legal battle to register the name in Arizona, being as how another semi-pro affiliate held the moniker first. I guess thats all cleared up.......

Why not the Scorpions?
That is the mascot...
It would be like calling the Coyotes the howl or the bite...

My theory on why pro teams fold:
When you have a mascot that isn't so much a tangible thing as a concept, your idea sucks. i.e., the entire WUSA, Washington Power, Detroit Turbos, and so on. You can't be a "Sting" or a "Stealth." Pick some freaking names that represent something you can BE. Damn, I just remmbered im' 22 and ranting about this. :-)

sting is ok, since they have something to back it in the form of the scorpion logo. money says that the mascot is stinger, or somethig to that effect. a name like the barrage sucks. doesnt do much for me and cant find a reason to get behind it. doesnt really inspire me.

good point longest... But torotnto is the best team in the NLL and probably will be again... and there name is the ROCK????

they don't even have a mascot....

Lacrosse is about the game, the reason the Power failed is poor arena location and poor marketing of box lax, colorado, the same team, marketed well and it payed of.....

not to mention.... The landsharks had a mascot and they blew!!!!

same with the saints (saint bernard)

really who cares!!!!

it all has to do with if the ppl can accept a better version of lax, if they can get there easy.... ottawa was in the middle of nowhere away from downtown, toronto is the the city's core by the main transit station, what better place for teenagers to go and watch a cheap pro sport???

I just hope san jose and arizona and anaheim have good transit for the young guys to go to the games!
