I have a Brine F-15 shaft and I play goalie and always get it caught on something cause it's too long for me. Either the bottom of the shaft gets tangled in my jersey or the net and sometimes hits my leg when I try to make a save and gets in the way. So anyway I was just wondering if I can shorten the shaft myself, if you recommend that I do that, or if I have to go to a lacrosse store to make sure it is done right cause it is really becoming a problem.

Alot of goalies who feel that the traditional goalie shaft is too long just buy an attack legnth shaft. Buy if you already have a shaft you like I'd reccomend seeing an automotives teacher as theirs plenty of tools there that can be used to shorten your shaft.

I really like my shaft so Id rather just cut a little bit off to make it more manageable but at my school we dont have an automotives class so I dunno who to see

Yep, you can do it yourself, I am required to have an attack length but I liked it when it was a little bit longer, btw. Cut a few inches at a time, nothing large, to see where you want it. You can always cut more off but it is pretty hard to add on lol.

I played with an all-american goalie who swore by shortening his shaft. If you feel uncomfortable, you should shorten it. Otherwise you will be subconsciously thinking about getting it caught in game time situations. As long as equipment is kept legal, you should modify it to fit your comfort level.

All my shafts are cut to 34". What amazes me is that people can't cut their own shafts. It really isn't that hard. Either use a sqare and a hacksaw or a table saw. It really isn't that hard so give it a shot.

A hacksaw will certainly work, but if you have access to a Dremel - use it. Way faster, especially for tough metals.
You can then use the grinder and wire brush attachments with your Dremel to smooth out the cut.

A Dremel to cut a shaft ey? Don't you think that's pretty dumb? Why don't you take a Sawzall to it then?

Although this thread is a few months old now, i must say one thing.
If you are getting your shaft caught in the net, step out a little bit!
