If there is a jv, Id say 6 or 7. Thats not saying that they will pick that many attack, there will most likely be people who play middie too that will do both.

as many as you want. My varsity team this year will carry 4 attackman.

^what if one is sick, another injured? Do you pull a middy to attack?

Some players are more natural at attack, usually they play with their sticks more vertical (i.e. less haning than middies). They're also typically some of the most cerebral players on the team as well. My college team has 4 attack, and 3 middies that are being groomed for it. Our 4th attack is a second line middie.
One of the best schools in our area does things a bit differently, but it works for them. Their best players are middies, period. They have an excellent riding attack, 2 feeders, and a creasemen that can finish. The feeders don't score a lick, but feeders can usually finish around the cage, and they don't turn the ball over, or dodge. They get the best matchups running 3 stud middies at a time. With as much talent as they have, their 6 best players on the field means too many chiefs, and not indians. You've got to find a good mix of leadership and talent in each line. Good luck.

this is hard to ay without being confusing...but there are as many attackmen a there are players who play attack.
if tht makes any sense at all
a team will not limit the amount of players at a position, unless there are 3 solid starters and there are like 2 decent 2nd string players already. its not how many are on a team as much as its how many will see the feild. At a high school level, my team has 4-5 that get playing time, and about 7 that watch.

my varsity team has three attackmen that play a large majority of the game, then there are two middies that will play when they're tired. it all depends, the jv team has 7 but only four play. over all, you only need two tru attackmen, because you can allways put in a middie at attack and have him play the crease.

If you have 6 attack, those can be your man up unit....
It really depends on how many players you have. We've had 4-5, with one or two guys switching in when they needed a break from being middies.

I wasn't suggesting that those six be just straight attackmen. Our middie/attack guys were the ones that went in on man down. They were always pretty much our better middies, so our 2nd string attack was on our 1st and second string mid lines. Also, if you have that much trouble when you're man up defending the goal, you need to get off the field...attack still need to know how to ride.
