They trap at the throat, so they're technically illegal.

Whether you'll actually be caught and penalized......well, depends on the ref, the opposing coach, etc.

I think the 'teeth' on the scoop also make it illegal, those things could probably do some damage.

Gurus are legal in box. In fact, I know several players in the NLL who have used them, or are still using them today.

Buddy:

Do you even know what the dimension rules are in the NLL?

Well then keep quiet.

I think Gurus measure OK for box, but are technically illegal because they do trap at the throat.

Hooligan: are you sure there's players using them? I have yet to see one in a game situation or even a pre-game throw around. They are useable, but less than ideal sticks for a few reasons

Hooligan

Yes I have. In the past, I've seen Tony Henderson use one, and also face-off guy Peter Jacobs has dabbled with it from time to time.

I've yet to see one this season. I think NLL players have moved away from them because its tough to catch a pass on the fly. That, and the fact that they really don't give you that much of an advantage.

hey rockstar i know the dimensions for the stick. and the guru head is to short and to narrow.

Guru's have been used b4 in the NLL before, theirs just too many disadvantages than there r advantages, such as hooligan said, not being able to catch on the fly.

Bucs lax,

Here is what the 2005 NLL rule book has to say about stick dimensions. Looks like the Guru is legal.

Rule 16: LACROSSE STICK DIMENSIONS

a) The lacrosse stick shall be an overall fixed length of forty (40”) to forty-six inches (46”) except the goalkeeper’s lacrosse stick.

b) The head of the lacrosse stick shall measure between four and one-half inches (4 ˝”) and seven inches (7”) at its widest point, inside measurement except for the goalkeeper’s lacrosse stick.

c) The single guard stop at the throat of the stick must be a minimum of 10 inches (10”) from the head to the nearest edge (closest to the handle) of the stop.

d) The depth of the pocket shall not exceed five inches (5”) measured from the outside edge of the head. Nothing may be added to or attached to the outside of the stick except as noted in Rule 17 (lacrosse stick dimensions).

Too short and narrow? I don't know what the Guru measures, but you're allowed to go as tight as 4.5" x 10" long for box. My gut feeling is it'll be just barely legal, or a bit illegal.

Doesn't really matter, the Guru traps at the throat, so it's technically illegal no matter what it measures.

Also doesn't really matter because refs can't just do random stick checks in NLL or box....Coach or captain has to request stick check, and they won't bother because half of their own guys are illegal in some way.

you can "unpinch"the throat.i pinched my guru saturday and now it dosent trap at all.

I looked into it, but it is weak....the head is too flimsy, I used to pinch my heads damn near as narrow, but you know what, I got used to a revo pro just fine now,...

instead of wasting your time on a guru, be an individual and get a real box head, buy a mohawk mission and pinch it to hell like a guru, I did it and I liked the setup.

On my guru i cut the back points off and cut the long parts of the ball stop off now its legal and doesnt trap at the throat.

You guys are talking about the nll like it is box lacrosse. it isn't. the nll is a mutant form of box and field mixed together in box the guru is illegal. it just might be legal in the nll.

I don't know where you guys are from but Those sticks are trick sticks for a reason it was made as a trick stick and its Illegal For any lacrosse. where the Pinch starts cant go past 7" from side to side and its to small. and If the ref spots it before the game in warm ups he can issue it not to be used. if the Player plays with it the ref can call the Penelty. I'm a ref in Saskatchewan and thats the way i call it. and no ones dumb enough to use it in a game!

laxgoalieking

the ref can only take a sitck out of the game IF the other team calls a stick check before the stick leaves the playing surface.ola 2005 rule book

and i am dumb enough to use it

Being a Field and Box referee in Ontario, even though no one mentioned Field, the Guru is illegal in both versions of the game. The points on the back of the stick are dangerous, and even when cut off, there could still be some harm.

Field we are told straight up no Guru's.

Box they say the Guru's are illegal without saying Guru. Any stick modified to be a trick stick is illigal.

Brine's own site states that the guru is exclusively designed for tricks

Not to mention the fact that makes it ILLEGAL has been mentioned over 5 times in this thread.

(Directed at everyone)
The Guru's measurements are perfectly legal for Box/NLL, BUT the ball gets trapped IN THE THROAT making it ILLEGAL!

To ease the argument, get an E3, and pinch the living hell out of it. That will substitute nicely for any Guru.

MBLacrosse
07-04-2005, 05:28 PM
the g-force is illegal in the CLA cause of the teeth on it. A buddy of mines coach has one that hes pinched tho and it looks sick! The only reason the ball gets stuck in the throat of the guru is because of the ball stop in it. The same thing happens if u put a fat goalie ball stop in a players stick.

The guru head is thin plastic thats just like useing a fiddle stick its just dumb.

08-16-2005, 09:38 AM
no way can you use a guru its too short and again, the head is plastic so it wont be legal. you wouldnt take 2 steps onto the floor without getting sent off or getting told to get a new stick

laxgoalieking
08-16-2005, 12:08 PM
all heads are made of plastic, and you could just put it on a longer shaft.I've played in house league against a kid that had one that had the teeth filed off.hes on the rep team too and its his back-up/face off stick

TweeK
08-16-2005, 01:22 PM
you would have to put a different shaft on it, but why would you use a guru for gameplay....?

laxpimp
08-27-2005, 09:23 PM
All the Gurus I have ever seen, the heads are brghtly coloured. It wouldn't hide the ball at all on offence. And to use it for defence would be absolutley retarded.

Gaelslax27
09-10-2005, 09:48 PM
I agree lax pimp. Anybody who uses a stick that hides the ball so poorly doesnt deserve to be on the floor.

Blah blah blah. I like my blue mesh, and there ain't nobody who's gonna change that. Maybe if we used a blue ball once in a while, the mesh would hide it much better than a white one.

ITS NOT MY FAULT!
