I've wondered about that for field and NLL. I know the NLL does not have a rule against left handed faceoffs, but I've never seen a lefty draw, and I really don't see how you could effectively.

I'm a lefty and take draws very occasionally. But the way you line up for box faceoffs, it doesn't matter much if you're right or left

Granted I am a new official but I cannot find any wording in Rule 4 section 3 of Federation rules that prohibit a left handed face-off. In the 20 years I have been playing or coaching however I have never seen it come up...I guess I would let it happen, unless someone else has any more info.

Simply put, it's illegal.

Read rule 4-3-4
"Both hands and both feet of each player shall be to the left of the throat of his crosse"

Snake~eyes is correct. Even if both players agree, they can't do a lefty faceoff (unless by "lefty" they mean crossing their arms so the left hand is closer to the head, but I can't see that being worthwhile).

Now that you point it out, I what you mean "right handed" faceoffs only.

There isn't a rule, you just have to have your entire body to the left of the throat.

Well, first off, if one guy wanted to faceoff righty and the other lefty, that would be a huge advantage for the lefty. He'd be used to facing off against righties, but the right-handed guy wouldn't be used to facing off against lefties. This is why about 10% of people are left handed, but about 50% of epee (fencing) world champions are left handed.

As for the case of two people who both want to face off lefty, I guess the powers that be decided that it made more sense to just make the faceoff consistent than to indulge the whims of a few sinister FOGOs.
