talk to your coach. If he keeps dropping the ball then tell your coach to cut back his playing time

Our coach just lets our D guys beat the crap out of ball hogs at practice.. he tells them that there are no rules for them.. which generaly makes them pass..

that solves the ball hog part but the "Im all that" attitude has to be solved personally. Fight, confrontation, ect. ect.

If you're one of the better players on your team, then confront him and tell him to stop being a retard and start playing lacrosse. If you're worse than he is...then he's not going to listen to you.
However, if you do talk to him and he keeps being a jackass, then just absolutely tear him apart in practice. Go out of your way in drills to beat the crap out of him, and at the end of practice, tell hiim th at there's more coming if he doesn't start practicing.
Don't be afraid to take some heat from your coaches for doing this. It's all for the good of the team.

Do your job.. Don't worry about the other players on the team, if this guy is truly a ballhog and is a detrement to the offense creating ground balls and transition for your opponent then your coach will know it already and will remedy the situation. Leave it to your coach.. If there is a problem he will address it.. Just play your position correctly, move well without the ball, catch, pass, and play smart.. Thats all you can do.. Often times when a player feels like you do and the coach hasn't done anything about it, its because you just don't like that player and you want the ball yourself.. So just do your part and don't worry about everyone else.. If he isn't doing what the coach wants the coach will address the issue.. hbm

Would half of you really do what you've suggested? Give him a buddy pass in hopes he'll get laid out? Bring your man to him? What are you guys thinking?

I have to agree here. Instead of all these detrimental suggestions, let the guy learn for himself that being a ballhog or creating enough gb's, the other team will let him know that by taking advantage of his play, intead of his own teammates stabbing him the back in game. If this keeps up and starts affecting the outcome of games, your coach should step in. I played with a guy who always tried to take the ball himself and never listened to anyone yelling about the coming double team and after a few games he started listening and racking up assists.

Who hasn't played with a ballhog?
They can be very frustrating to watch, especially when you're wide open and they have about three defenders kicking the crap out of them.
If your coach hasn't realized that this is a recipe for disaster, then your screwed. Until the coaches make a change or teach this guy something about team play, your going to be continually p@##ed off.
My only suggestion is to really work hard to get open, and once you're wide open scream like a mo fo. If he gets stripped, and your team loses the ball, let him know how mad you are at him.. something's gotta break here.
If you don't want to get in his face, talk to your coach.. if he does nothing.. you've got to deal with it.
you could always talk to the captains as well.

Good points. If this player is truly as selfish with the ball as you say, the coaches are probably already aware of it, or will be shortly. But by playing your position correctly and doing all the things you know need to be done (ie. moving without the ball, and generally inspired and intelligent play) you will actually help to highlight his selfishness. If the game film shows you are doing everything you can do, and the results for the team just aren't there, it will be VERY obvious to the coaching staff exactly what the problem is (assuming they haven't figured it out already).

yeah seriosuly guys, come on. Whoever said take a shot to his shins, what are you smoking? Why would you want to take a player out on YOUR OWN TEAM? Sure, he might be a pain in the a$$, but so what. You, as a player, dont have to be an a$$hole, just talk to him or leave it up to the coaching staff. If the coaches dont do anything aout it, then you can take it into your own hands, within reason. So, dont come out swinging with this kid, just talk to him after practice or something.

As a coach, I seem to be "blessed" one new swine (a.k.a. ball hog) every season. This is just my humble 2 cents, but here are a few tacts you may want to consider for this player.
1. Explain to him that he is a valuable player, but his value is greatly diminished when he fails to recognize that another player may have a better opportunity for scoring.
2. Emphasize and give the highest recognition to your players who make the assists, not the goals.
3. The player in question may have a little known learning handicap . . .everyone does to some degree.
4. Players will repeat the habits they get the most praise for.
5. Feed his ego - "I gaurantee you will be the team MVP if you make the most assists!"
Good coaches look for the good in all their players and affirm it. Only then do they address problems. If you are a player steps 1 and 4 still apply here.

If the rest of the players on your team are running plays correctly and moving off the ball creating openings in the middle or where they're supposed to be believe me it will be noticed.. If he isn't feeding open off the ball movement then he will be taken out by the coach. that is how you do it without the ball.. Off the ball movement is key to any offense, maybe this guy is a great feeder and your just not giving him the opportunity to feed you?! hbm

but if he has the ball i cant do my job
There's 6 guys on the offense at once...83% of the time you don't have the ball...
So if you want to improve your game, work off ball

There is not one piece of punctuation in this entire "paragraph". Anyway, ball hogs will always be ball hogs. Either you can whine about it, which as we can see, you've done already, or you can just wait it out. Sooner or later your coach will catch on to it, unless he is the coach's son. In that case, you are SOL.
