Why the Gait bro's though?? I agree that they should change it, but I have no clue to what. Isn't the Champion's Cup the name of a curling or some other sport's cup aswell...

cups usual are named after the guy that donates it for example, the stanley cup;donated by lord stanley

Unfortunately, the most suitable names are already taken, my vote would be baggataway cup (canadian men's univ. field lax cup though).
I believe it should bare a name of significance to the game and it's heritage. In that case I am stumped, but Gait cup is going too far I believe.

Why don't they just call it the "Veltman Cup"? After all, he's held it the most of any one NLL player.
I know it won't catch on, but to me at least it seems appropriate.

Con Smythe said something to the effect once that if he was going to war, he'd bring lax players...too bad there's already an award named for him...
but yes trophys are usually named for those that donate them...
Minto Cup - Lord Minto
Mann Cup - Sir Donald Mann
hmmm...maybe the NLL is just waiting for someone to donate...
if I had a say...
the creator's cup (it was called the creator's game...but this might get into the whole religious debate crap)
I dont like cups being named after people but I wouldn't mind if P&G gait donated money for a Gait cup...as they have been the leaders throught the history of the league (led the first players agreement contracts or something like that, and helped jump ship from MILL to NLL)...

Champions' cup is a good enough name for the NLL Championship Trophy.
I'd hate to re-name the thing to honour one or two people from Lacrosse (For example, is John Tavares any less deserving? If he toughs out two more seasons, he'll probably break most of Gary's scoring records. He may have just as many or even have more championship rings than either Gary or Paul)
Like others have said, Championship trophies that bear someone's name usually do so because they were donated a long time ago by a noble of some type (Stanley Cup, Grey Cup, Mann Cup, Minto Cup, etc.). Truthfully, I can't think of any major championship trophies, other than the Superbowl trophy, that were named after a reknowned sports figure.
If you wanted to honour the Gaits, I think one of the best things to do would be to name the MVP award, or the top scorer award after them.....they've both won each at least once. You could do the same thing with Tavares.

A suggestion would be the Beers cup, since it was George Beers who set out
a set of standardized rules that now form the basis of the modern game. Besides it has a nice double-entendre do you think :)
Of course, most fitting would be something that honoured the origins of
that game by the native north americans.

Maybe the name should hold a first nations name, for example the Mohawk Cup?
What about the Livsey Cup in respect of the former commissioner of the NLL?
I don't think the cup should be named after a player unless they have been out of the league for atleast 10-20 years.

I like the idea of Beers but i guess it should be a first nations name

In the wake of Les Bartley's death, do you think it should be called the Bartley Cup? I know that the coach of the year trophy is named after Bartley and I am torn as to whether Bartley is significant enough to have the trophy named after him, but another part of me says "why not?"
