Isn't this a bit excessive? The MLL should think more about the immediate area first. Instead of Seattle, why not try Atlanta or Chicago? The trip would be much cheaper for a team to finance, and that way the league wouldn't create a dividing line between big market and small market teams.
I say Seattle is a bad idea. Stick with a closer city.

Power and Smash had horrible attendance problems due to poor public relations. The Smash were located in a great lacrosse town, but how the hell can college kids get the money to go to a full season of NLL lacrosse games? The Power had a history of attendance problems. They used to be the Baltimore Thunder, Pittsburgh Crossefire, and are now the Colorado Mammoth. At least now they have a city who appreciates them.

Stick with a closer city. the way i understand it is that when there is any west coast teams there will be 6 all at once and they will all play eachother and the eastern teams will play eachother and the 2 champions from each division will play for the MLL Chapionship. Thats the way i understand it. It would cut down on travel alot with would make it effective

Smarter. But in that case, would the western teams be completely independent? If so, how would this effect the MLL? If the western teams don't catch on, then there could be adverse effects. Not to mention 6 teams at once could dilute the talent pool.

The east would dominate the title for probably 5-10 years until the west could attract enough talent and season it, or could sway enough WLA players to wander down south and play field in the states. Unless the MLL can increase its attendance, and increase its revenue, they won't be able to attract WLA players from their Canadian box league, where there are more fans and supposidly more money.
There is some incredible talent out west. Tracey Kelusky, Jeff Ratcliffe, Nick Schroeder, etc. These are the guys you want to attract to those potential western teams. But until you give these Canadian players a reason to leave home and play in the states, they'll leave that primarily for the NLL season only.
First and foremost, the MLL should take a good long look at this upcoming NLL season and learn something that could be very valuable to this western expansion idea. So far the NLL has had incredible success in Colorado, and now they have a team in San Jose, California, and should have another in Phoenix, Arizona. Those three teams (2 definite) could provide a model for the MLL to follow, if indeed they want to do this wild expansion. Could prove invaluable.

I think they should get 2 new teams, and out one in each division to make 4 each. Then, see how that an Jose NLL team is doing. If the market there seems to be good, put a couple teams in.

well to begain with the MLL isnt going to be doing this expansion till at the earlist 2005 and it may be later. The MLL dosent have to wait around for the NLL anyways. The NLL and the MLL are 2 different products that do draw different fans. Its easier for the NLL to draw people for 1 fact the weather. they dont deal with rain and also when they play its snowing out and people have nothing better to do. I belive if the MLL truly wants to do this expansion they could pull it off im sure. Perhaps what they will do b4 they expand is do another MLL showcase event at the potential sites.

True the NLL and MLL are different products, but they do draw the same fans. For instance, the Philadelphia Wings submitted that information that I provided about the MLL championship game. They realize that many of their own fans attend or would be interested in attending MLL events.
It might be a great idea that if the MLL does infact go out west, that they should place teams in NLL areas (or at least in the general vicinity). Why? Because from talking to NLL fans all over the country, they would be incredibly interested in having lacrosse all year long. Thats better than just wandering into a completely virgin market and haveing to start all over. Let the NLL do the hard work...that will only help the MLL become a stable market, and will keep it around for decades!
Just an idea.:agree

Stopper, if the market in San Jose is bad, they should not put teams there right away.

Its all in the marketing. You could put a lacrosse team Havanna, Cuba, and if you market it correctly you could possibly have the best attendence in the league.

East coast already has MLL teams. I think they should spread it around so that people out here can see some MLL games. Having an Atlanta team would just be adding to all the lax that is alreday on the east coast. I'm really excited bout the team coming to san jose/san francisco. i understyand that the south prollie wants teams too but I think its good to mak it available to new areas b4 giving every state its own team.

Look at other sports (as if they exist :-) Baseball for instance has an expansion draft. Each team picks a certain # of players that are locked up and can't be drafted. Then the expansions teams each pick a certain # of players from current teams. Then they draft new players to fill the rest. One example, in football, the Texans picked up Tony Boselli from Jacksonville as an expansion pick.

If they plan to expand from six to twelve teams there really have to rip some of theses teams apart.

Agreed but they should move New jersey and Baltimore to those two places
