ok, so your probelm is your burning your guy and then you get picked up by another defender? Well, we call that sliding, so what this means is you have a partial fast break situation. So, in theory, the defender that slides to cover you, has to move his man, and then what do you do when this happens? you dump it to the open man= quick a$$ goal..dont be selfsih when you have to ball.

You might want to try making your pocket shallower. It makes for a quick release, and a faster shot or pass. The downside is that it's harder to catch and handle the ball with. You can be a much different player by switching to a shallow pocket, but it'll definitely take a lot of practice and time to get used to.

If not, then instead of winding up for a crank shot, learn how to play with your hands more choked up on the stick. That will let you get it off quicker as well. If this doesn't work...then take a chance and dodge the guy that's picking you up, and then put it in from there.

pass it, if he slides then there will be an open man at a wide open shot and more of a chance of getting it in since it isnt 20 feet away

yea, you should pass it, and just dont wind up so far back or look for the pass quicker b4 he has a chance to check you

You're kidding, right?

Try this. during the weekends or offseason (offseason would be better) get a longpole. Get a good pocket in it and just constantly throw around with it. Try playing a few scrimmages with your friends USING THE LONGPOLE. Try to keep it hidden and whatnot.

Trust me, i've been on longpole for 2 weeks and when i picked up my shorty, it was second nature to keep the stick close to my body, but still get a good pass/shot off WITHOUT a huge wind up.

If you don't want to try that, then don't wind up as much! Make a low, semi-shallow pocket, keep it close to your body when you shoot/pass and don't have a lot of whip. That way you can get off those touch passes when needed OR take the shot.

once you beat your man get your elbows up for a shot, bring the head of your stick to about your ear get up on your front foot and let it rip. The defensemen that is sliding is causing a screen so shoot around him. Or you can make a quick face dodge when he lunges and snap a quick shot off your shoulder. Remember when ever you're shooting on the run get up on your front foot so you have your weight moving toward the net - - otherwise you'll be fading away and it won't be a hard shot.

If your defender behind you is close enough to check your pass then you didn't burn him now did you...
