I heard that getting a sand bag and poke checking it strengthens your poke checks, is this true?? :dummy:

Hmm...that's interesting. It seems, however, like it would just be something that would snap the head of your stick. You could try it out, put I would not reccomend doing it with your game stick.

Maybe if you hang the sandbag, but otherwise I can't see it doing anything.

Yeah, I don't see it doing anything to make your poke checks harder, just seems like a way to warp your head.

Just hit the weights man. Work your shoulders and your arms, you'll get harder poke checks...the old fashioned way.

Hanging a sandbag from a tree might work. It'd look silly though

i dont know bout strengthaning your poke, but i use a sandbag in a differant way, i have it hanging on the opposite side of my punching back and i practice getting to it in differant ways/angles/pokes. But yea, lifting weights will definatly give you a more stiff arm. chest, shoulders, triceps, wrist, biceps. all used when you poke. but then again, you poking people as hard as you can kind of tells something about you. You do know that if you put all your strength into a poke, your way overcommiting to it and you will get burned all the time. think if you poked him but you missed, your whole body would lunge in the direction, then all he would have to do is move right beside you.

A smart defender pokes with his hands, not with his body. Agreed to the over commitment.
Poking a sandbag is stupid. How would it be different than poking a brick wall? Perhaps if you put the sandbad in your pocket and poked you would see some gain from the wrist strength you would build up and the speed, but poking a sandbag, well... Come on, lets use our noggins :nut:
As long as you step back everytime you poke, you can use all the strength you want.
